What's best for missile defense?

Whats best, chaff, countermeasure or point defense?

Missiles are so weak currently that honestly a shield cell unit will suffice.....which oddly enough back in beta they used to be overpowered and running several PDT's was standard practice. If you are really worried about them I would the ECM unit for heat seekers as with dumbfires it is honestly just a good idea to get out of the line of fire.

Any shield generator.

If you don't have shields, silent running + heatsinks.

If you are a masochist, a PDT.

If you are silly, an ECM.

If you are a fool, chaff (as it doesn't work on missiles).

If you hear the great "Incoming missile" while your shields are down, you can expect to hear a fairly loud sounding poof when it hits you.

If anything, a point defence *should* shoot it down. if you don't have one though, boost and use your vertical thrusters.

Torps are pretty fun still, just the low ammo means its only worth carrying them if you have lots of hard points and going after a specific target, like an assassination mission.

Point defense is decent, cheap, low power requirement, and will stop most missiles while requiring nothing from you while flying as they work passively.

ECMs require you to actually charge and fire. By the time your brain registers there is a missile and you start to charge it, the missile will have already hit you.

I only ever use chaff, because they are good to lose missiles, and also effect gimbals and turrets, so 3 in 1 tool, why waste any more slots than you have to. Use spare slots for shield boosters if you have the power.

Until FD gets arround with making missiles anything close to not harmless, you can just ignore them.

If you are really concerned, fit a heat sink, as it has other uses than missile defense, contrary to PDD.

whats strange, is that missiles are supposed to be heat seakers, aka chaff should not having any impact. At the same time, ECM then makes no sense either.

i only fit point-defense when going into a conflict zone, because the cobras there drop mines here and there.

you can manually shoot down missiles too. so if you have a "turret" mounted, you can select any missile with the "highest threat" lock and let the turret take care of it.

so, for countermeasures:
ECM only works against seaker missile and torpedos, but is cumbersome to use
PD works against seaker, dumbfire, torpedo and mines
Manually shooting works against all of them, but is tricky
heat-sink / stealth works against any target lock

chaff - cannot confirm that it does anything
