whats currently the fastest ship (with boost) in the game?

is the clipper the second?
Probably but I think it is very close between other ships and depends on your setup and to know for sure you would need to try everyone out to test how long the boost lasts.
Here are the stock boost speeds for several ships (correct me if I'm wrong):
Imperial Clipper: 380
Imperial Courier: 380
Orca: 380
Diamondback Scout: 384
Viper: 388

Orca can be decently fitted and boost to 442 with A-grade thrusters. It's no where near as maneuverable as a Cobra, but in a straight line, it can't be beat.

just tested a fully kitted out A rated courier, boost maxes out at around 375. Clipper A rated hits about 385. Didnt buy and try the others but im pretty sure a viper doesnt go up to 388 as it shines in its cruise speed, not boost speed. hmm

Data that I am using is from the wiki and may be wrong or outdated. Sorry about that. :(

As I said in my previous post the top speed depends a lot on setup. In the video that I posted a link too Isinona's Cobra can go up to 453 m/s.

It all depends on your load out but:

Cobra top boost speed is 456 but is more like 440 with a good combat fit.
Clipper is 440 max and can still manage this wih a good combat load.
Not sure about Orca.
Viper and FDL are both around 405, combat fitted.
Vulture and Courier are both around 396, though Courier can be faster around 405 with a light combat load.
Asp is around 390.

Remember that an all A grade equipment is not always best, D grade is lightest and can be used to get these speeds as well as increase jump range.

The Orca might have a slightly higher hard cap than the Clipper, but the Clipper can reach it's cap with a much larger useful load...same thruster class, less hull mass.

All of these values are terribly low.

My light combat Courier boosts to ~420, a well equipped Clipper boosts to 439-441, and a combat Viper 405-415, depending on specifics.

Stock speeds don't mean much, and no one has bothered to put the speed caps for the given vessels on the wiki.

To hit speed cap you need to be using the best thruster the ship can mount and the total ship mass must be half of optimal thruster mass or less.

For example, the A6 thrusters on a Clipper have an optimal mass of 1440T, so a Clipper needs to weigh 720T total or less to reach it's maximum speed (441, which usually takes a double boost and some vertical thrust to see).

It should be noted that the Clipper can boost more often than the Cobra, and that it loses less speed between boosts. So, even though the Cobra has an appreciably higher peak boost, if it's light enough, it can still fall behind in a protracted chase, unless extremely light.

Viper and FDL are both around 405, combat fitted.

FDL's cap is 406, and this is pretty easy to attain, unless you use armor.

Viper won't ever reach cap in a combat state, but my combat Viper boosts to 412.

Vulture and Courier are both around 396, though Courier can be faster around 405 with a light combat load.

Courier is a very small ship with class three thrusters so it's extremely sensitive to weight.

Try using a class 2 shield gen (hull mass is so low that this doesn't hurt much) and an undersized fuel tank.

D grade is lightest and can be used to get these speeds as well as increase jump range.

Yep. D life support, D sensors, and lightweight bulkheads on all my combat ships that are equipped with shields.

The courier I fly boosts to 416-420 depending on whether I have a SCB with me.
I think it does 405 with 10T of cargo on board, its very sensitive to weight.

A viper can do 420 but probably 405-415 is more realistic for most light builds.

Orca and Clipper are both around 440, Diamondback scout can get to 420 quite easily too, maxed at 440 I think, might have been 430.

Cobra is over 450

FLD is a pathetic 406, only reason I don't fly mine.
