Whats happened to the loading times?!

My parks are taking a lot longer to load than what it did in previous updates/Alphas. I know they have added a lot of stuff which will make it take longer obviously, but maybe loading times could be optimized a bit more? Loading times in the Alphas and Beta was amazing from what I can remember [happy] It could just be my computer however....

I didn't notice any change through updates

What are your specs? Do you have enough room on your pc?

Didn't notice any changes either.
Might be somehting wrong with your update, Try to verify your game trought steam, maybe it will fix it.

I haven't noticed much difference between loading times since early last year.

But do agree that it takes a while to load one of the maps. But that only takes a long time to load a map if you've just fired up the game. After you exit and load another map, the game does it more faster.

It's a bit of a mystery why it takes a while to load. You would think the game is loading on a slow 5400rpm HDD. But I have a Samsung EVO 850 1TB SSD. And SSD's are considerably faster at booting, loading and saving, than a 5400rpm and 7200rpm HDD. And there's a lot of evidence that SSD's do stuff faster than an HDD.

I've noticed it takes about 35-40 seconds to load any sandbox map after launching a game. And I have an i7-6700k which has a fast clock speed of 4.2Ghz

My specs are pretty decent:

Intel i5 4690K
16GB RAM
GTX 960

I've also just verified my game so I'll see if that changes anything...

weird, for me the loading times are almost instant

maybe put your game on an ssd, it's not that big anyway

It may also depend on how big and detailed your park is. I have 2 parks each with 22 rides 6k guests and moderate scenery, and when I first launch the game, it takes about 15-35 seconds to load. Smaller parks with not much stuff, should definitely load quicker.

SSD's are A LOT faster at booting, saving and loading, compared to HDD's. An SSD can boot a PC with everything loaded on the desktop, in 10 seconds. An HDD takes about 2 minutes, and once you reach the desktop, you have to wait another minute at least, for all the programs to load and be absolutely ready.

Yeah, once you go SSD you can never go back. My fresh Windows 10 install takes about 3 seconds to boot from the machine being fully turned off to desktop.

How big is Windows 10? I'm looking at what size to get [happy]

A windows installation is around 20GB, but can get larger over time. I don't know what other games you play, but games' sizes have become rather large these days so definitely get a 256GB or larger.

Well I don't have that many games so I think 120GB will do me. I need to save my money as I'm upgrading my whole PC later this year [happy]

Do your parks load faster with Planet Coaster on the SSD? If so by how much?

I don't really know that, sorry. I have been using SSDs for years now. But larger parks do not seem to load really fast, but this is something that can happen to games. Loading times are affected by your HDD or SSD speed, but also CPU, since it has to build the map/game/ as well. But booting times are really fast. Programs start and load instantly. My computer goes from completely turned off to desktop in about 3-4 seconds.

Ah, alright thanks! [happy]

I have to warn you 120gb fills up quickly even with windows alone. 256gb is only a little more expensive than a 128gb one.

Agree with this! Although you can get Windows 10 with Planet Coaster on a 64GB drive no problem you will start to run out of space rapidly. Once you've experienced SSD speeds you'll want more and more of your programs on it and suddenly 64gb and even 128gb fills up quickly! 240+GB is a nice size, it's not a massive step up in price from the 120GB models and is probably worth it in the long run considering the larger storage space will extend the useful life of the drive.

SSD's are probably one of the single best computer upgrades you can make for the price. I'm still using one of the first generation 64GB sata SSDs that I purchased over ten years ago now and although it's much slower than my other more modern SSD drives, it's still a lot faster than even a 2TB mechanical drive when used as a boot drive in the spare PC!

Some brands to consider: Samsung, Crucial, Intel, Toshiba, Sandisk, Kingston, Western Digital, Corsair, ADATA.
