Ships What's it actually for? (Keelback)

I use the KB as a multipurpose mission runner, explorer, bounty hunter, and taxi. Since it's engineered up the wazoo it's an excellent PvE ship.

Did you try going full combat-ship on it?

To be fair on the ship i might have been a bit harsh with it. I ed about in it for a while, then basically i had a few back to back sessions when the controller i was using at the time kept doing what it wanted and got me spaced in situations i really should have gotten away from easily. I rage quit for a week or so then ditched the keelback and went back to my cobra when i returned

Load it up with heavy weapons, milspec armour, HRP's, MRP's and a small SCB. Decent crew and you'll one heck of a tanky brick that can do a surprising amount of damage.

I use mine as an in the bubble mission runner. I do BB trade/courier/salvage/planetary missions and also use it to salvage engineer mats.

Its a fun ship in the bubble where you can pick up a lot of 1 jump missions. I equip mine with either S mines/torpedoes and M turreted multicannons and let the fighter knock down the shields on the interdicting ship/tradeship, swoop in when the shields are down and then scoop the mats. I change the loadout depending on what type of missions I'm doing based on what type of lazy I am I use either a docking computer or a collector.

I think a lot of people take it for granted that everyone has a lot of money. For someone just starting to build up this ship is a good multirole ship thats an alternative to say the T6 that doesnt really have any offensive ability. If you actually like fighting a bit but still want to run some cargo this is a cool little ship.

Fully A-rated its only like 12M cr with a 768k rebuy for this build.

Being a mediocre combat pilot I've learned to appreciate the smaller ships a lot. With a 700k rebuy I dont get frustrated if I get destroyed thats like two billboard missions. And its still got that 'go thru the mailslot facing any direction' thing going on like the T6.

Engineer the FSD, get a bit more power output and you can throw on a couple of small lasers or mine launchers and engineer the light alloy. Its surprisingly durable and better in combat than the Asp or Cobra to me since the fighter with a vet pilot can dish out way more damage than your ship ever could.

its probably the best all pupose ship pre-python, but what it does best?
individual bounty hunting (interdicting wanted targets)...which means its astonishingly good for getting galactic power merits
32t cargo, 300+ biweave shields, 4xturrets give about 90% coverage (ie you cant really atatck it and not get hit by something, and considering a fighter is also on your tail if you're focusing on the keelback itself....
its capable of beating anything other than gunship/python easily in the medium class in termsof interdicting bounty hunting, and it can run from anything it cant take in a fight.
like all lakon ships, it also runs VERY cold, so if you engineer it for that it can still sit well out of range of large combat zones/haz rez'z and just send in fighters for free money

I made an out-of-the-box science exploration vessel, and am just in the process of testing and engineering. It's my first brick ship but so far I like it. It totally reminds me of flying an Eagle; the Space:1999 version. Wake scanner, ADS, DSS, fighter bay, 4G SRV bay, 5B fuel scoop, and a bunch of lightweight kit. IDK how deep-space-worthy it is but we'll see after more work.

No mining laser?

Wake scanner? Is it any use for exploration?

My explorer setup. Never had any issue with it at all. Lovely boat!

Unfortunately, for me, its cargo load is a bit low so I use a T6 for medium pad trade and delivery missions.
However the KB shields up nicely so I use it as a SRV carrier for planetary landings and scan and salvage missions.
Currently started a new career so I just have a T6 now but it's time is coming.

Gonna make this a Lakon career in the bubble. Got a Faulcon DeLacy career going in Colonia.

Right now I'm doing planetary landings and getting out the fighter and SRV for better practice on those things (I recently had my pedals set up for toe sweep input so new driving all around), so it's kind of a GP mission vessel with scanning before I do any really deep-space anything. I'd ditch the wake scanner once I need to go really far out but for now it's side-missioning my data collection needs. This is the best thing we really have to a science-based vessel in the game at this point, so there's that. I want in the future to have a ship bristling with science gear; don't take my dreams away! D:

I assume the mining is for jumponium purposes? That's also on my "yet to investigate in detail" list for deep space exploration.

Fair enough.

Yeah the mining laser is for jumponium. If you run out and can't get the mats from a planet etc then you can potentially find them in asteroids.
For me it a belt and bracers kinds of thing. With 2 SRV's I shouldn't ever not be able to prospect but just in case. I'm happy to sacrifice half a lyr to have the extra backups etc.

I wanted to set one up as a pirating or swat rescuer type of ship.

Interdict or follow mission beacon onto target. Drop in. Launch fighter to distract. Start beating at shields. Launch hatch breakers, launch collectors. And somehow disable enemy PP.

Unfortunately never got around to test that theory, and instead started gearing up a federal dropship for the same purpose. Dropship hits harder, takes harder hits, and can do same except have a SLF.

Yup a pirate KB is doable. There are some who use it for that. Look into the KB owners thread there a couple of pirate builds in there I think.
