Is it possible to transport corrosive cargo without a corrosive resistant cargo bay? Like, maybe with a few stops along the way to synthesize more AFMU ammo? And if it's possible, is it practical?

Possible, yes. Practical... well, maybe. If you're gonna do it once and constant hassle with repairs doesn't bother you, you can do it, but if you're gonna do it regularly you should really invest into the proper equipment. Corrosive cargo is a PITA.

Transporting 1 or 2 is fun and easy. Get the FSD spooled up withing 30s of arrival and dont stop for anything ! You can travel pretty much anywhere. If things get bad, you can stop (eject the Cargo if you like a bit of risk) and AMFU up.
More than 2 is much more difficult and scarey. If there is a hit on your Cargo Module, you will loose something. You want a Big ship and lots of OTHER cargo in the hold so you reduce the risk of losing interesting stuff.

(While Jmanis has transported a LOT this way, so have plenty of others. The very 1st captured UA is still kicking about in someones hold)

Yeah that's true. I also figured that if I did come across something unusually valuable or unique, I could reach out online to ask other players to help me transport it.
