Whats next?

Question to the devs, don't have to answer, just hoping you hear the question.

What is the next big feature?

"Big" is relative, so to clarify, what is the next major gameplay being added to what we have now. This does not include the planetary landings, or FPS mode. It also does not include the expansions, multiplayer features. What is the next thing to "keep us busy" and "immersed" in this lovely galaxy.

To be even more to the point, what is the next big "content" being added?

I don't need to know when it is done, I would like to know "what it is". Whats in the brew? What are you keeping from us?
Please don't torture us with the unknowing, Christmas has passed and no one is in the mood for surprises.

Cheers :p

I was hoping for something more meaty. This also falls into the category of multiplayer.

Yes and no.

From the article:
Players can contribute towards the goal whatever mode they're playing. While Open Play will see greater numbers of players diverge on the targeted system, Solo Mode and Private Group players will still be able to contribute to the overall total.

So this will indeed create new content for people to get involved in no matter what mode they are playing in. If they chose to do so is of course up to the players themselves.

Well I read that and think, "thats a nice feature", but when I REALLY think about it, I wonder what noticeable difference will it make aside from a few stats on an info screen.

If it was something that cascaded into a war where you see a thousand hostile ships converging on a planet, and you choose whether to stand to fight them with another fleet of ships or run for the hills, then yes, that would be pretty amazing.
So far though, all I predict is a few alterations to the name tags of allegiances of various stations... boooorreee.

Give me a fleet battle. With a thousand ships in it. TBH a boost the number of ships in general would be a good start. For a system with 5 billion people in it in a futuristic galaxy, seeing only up to 10-15 ships on the radar at a time is a little.. underwhelming. This could be tested in a seperate system simulation where we set the number of ships we want to hangout with so we can find a scale that suits everyones PCs.

I think Elite is in real need of two key things.

1. Relationships that mean something. Gaining favor with a faction/group should grant something. Special missions, unique upgrades or equipment. Conversely, consistently wronging a faction should spawn NPC's trying to kill you even if you're no longer wanted. Faction bonuses! Faction specific missions!

2. Multiplayer beyond PvP. joint missions, a hidden base somewhere, something for friends to do together. Community goals and the Wings update hint at some of these things, but currently there isnt anything I can do with a friend besides mine the same asteroid field or bounty hunt at the same RES/Nav Beacon. Obviously the effect of these missions needs to go beyond money and tie into the 1st point.

+1. Underwhelming is pretty accurate. Yeah space is big but where are all my crusing star ships and activity? At least in the core systems.
