What's so good about Colonia?

Today, with a distinct lack of productivity, I was rummaging through my spare parts bin and thought I had the makings of a half decent exploration build. So I popped to the shipyard and got myself a Krait Phantom, outfitted for a little over 50ly range and went for a little jolly towards the center from my home base at Robardin Rock in Carcosa.

After about 1kly I was beginning to tag new finds. I did a tour in a little loop of about 75-100 jumps detail scanning any ELW, Water Worlds, or terreform high metal content bodies. All very relaxing stuff.

I cashed in 2 ELW's, 9 water world's and any number of other shiny bits and bobs I'd scanned and pocketed cr85m.

So for me Colonia is great for its exploration potential, as well as its more manageable size, its welcoming community and the engineers being close to each other so its easy to pop to each of them when I fancy it. Also, when people blow me up in combat they are ever so nice about it!

So that's my view from 22kly from the bubble, anyone who takes the trip out here please sell your exploration data at Carcosa!

I remember being distinctly unimpressed the first time I rocked up in Colonia. It looked and functioned the same as the Bubble, it wasn't the sort of transition you get going from (say) Argon space to Teladi space in the X games.

I guess the initial appeal was the laborious journey to get there, but given most commanders worth their salt these days have a 65 LY Anaconda or AspX in their stable, it's about as challenging as catching a train from London to Reading (well pre-Covid, anyway). Even Beagle Point only takes a few days to reach with few navigational challenges. I haven't looked at Fleet Carriers yet (frankly the idea bores me - would much rather have seen an X style factory fab chain), but they look as if they wil reduce the challenge of long distance travel from the aforementioned train journey to a walk down to Asda (minus the social distancing queue to get in).

Probably the biggest and most infamous claim to (in)fame(y) of Colonia was that journey a couple of years ago in conjunction with the terminally ill guy, where the ship kept getting ganked and even made the MSM. I don't recall all the details.

In the beta I'm jumping my FC to Colonia. I'm taking the opportunity to "test" if I like Colonia and will eventually move over there when FC will go live

You forgot the "Sales Pitch" obligatory Screenie:

Still not been to Colonia, will go someday. If i don't get blown up instantly upon arrival i intend to cash in all exploration at Carcosa, it sounds like my kind of place😀

Does anyone know what the Xbox scene is like these days? Are there any player groups, even cross-platform? Any Xbox pvp in Colonia?

Now that we’re in this content hiatus before the New Era, I’ve been considering relocating for funsies.

But the last time I was there I only lasted about a month, because all the CGs and my friends were in the Bubble. That was about a year ago.

For me it's the people. Not only Loren's Reapers, but also the ones you run into almost daily. The mix of residents and visitors is fascinating to me and brings Colonia alive, I never felt that in the bubble.

Engineering is great too, 4 stops and 30min later any ship is fully engineered, if you have all the required mats. Super easy and it lends itself to build some wacky ships. I agree with exploring, in the last months I didn't venture more that 200ly out and still got lots of undiscovered tags. Outfitting and ship selection improved alot since my first visit and is almost at bubble level. Now with The Nameless running the shipyards in Carcosa and Earth Expeditionary Fleet Colonia even has some nice superpower ships, even if one of the nebula bullies is trying to change that since February.

BGS and group dynamics is what piqued my interest as of late. The small bubble with a relative large amount of player groups results in some interesting interactions with twists and turns. Also most "local" people are really dedicated to the region and we get some nice tools, like Ian Doncaster's website, which help to make the intangible tangible.

I think to understand what makes Colonia great you need to tag along with some locals to see what is going on. On the surface it looks just the same as the bubble with lots more stars in the sky and less to do, but once you dive deeper you most likely will fall in love with the unique way of Colonia.

Colonia, you come for the sights, but will stay for the people.

So long you don't have a KWS or a big bumber sticker with "I hate Anarchy" you should be fine.;)

If you wish to be blown up instantly on arrival kindly contact the Anarchy Interstellar Helpdesk 0555 4587 2723 (between 03:00-04:56 Galactic Centre Time) to request the reception committee department to arrange a suitable time and date... Thank you for your co-operation in these busy times :giggle:

  • I was able to obtain much higher trade mission values than in the bubble. With much less effort. Luck?
It's a lot easier to get allied with lots of factions, so you see more of the high-end missions wherever you go. There's also higher general player density than in most of the bubble, which has been reported to increase the number of trade missions generated (and boosts the number of Boom/Investment states a lot). And there are slightly longer-ranged missions readily available in Colonia (though if you can be online a few hours after the server reset in the bubble, that's worth a look) which do pay out a bit more.

Let's say the situation in Colonia makes it easier to get lucky.
