Newcomer / Intro whats special about Achenar?

Go land on Achenar 3's surface base, it makes it all worth it.

Seriously though apart from a 6+ g world it's nothing special, just the homeworld of the Empire. I think there may be a capital ship dockyard at one of the stations iirc.

dont have horizons...

In that case, no, nothing special unless you really love the Empire. In terms of gameplay, the most notable detail of the system is the presence of an engineer who can make your bounty/manifest scanners much faster.

None of the permit locked systems have anything very interesting (other than the odd engineer). The interest is in the personal journey you took to unlock the system rather than the contents of the system.

Well, other than Shinrarta Dezhra - that has discounts ;)

Engineers is that not also Horizons?

Achenar is the capital system of Empire, that's why it's permit locked. Just like Sol is capital system of Federation and Alioth is capital system of Alliance.

Every faction there is Imperial (Obviously) if you where interested in gaining more Empire rank. Same goes for working in Sol for the feds.

There isn't really anything special about most permit systems. A few have engineers, some have rare goods, a few have discounts. Others have nothing unusual at all about the system.

Achenar is the Imperial capital. It's blue-white actinic radiance allows for maximum baskfulness. It is best enjoyed while flying a Gutamaya ship, painted in the default white colourscheme, without wearing sunglasses. You may need to have your eyeballs genetically engineered to be able to cope with all that glare, but that's The Imperial Way.

Seriously, out of the three Superpower capital systems, Achenar is probably the worst. The interesting places (especially for a non-Horizons player) are all so far away; you have to travel 21,000 Ls just to land somewhere with decent missions. There are a whole bunch of Imperial factions there, so levelling up with all five can get you some serious mission-stacking capability, but since there are never any missions asking you to go back to Achenar, that dead-head 21,000 Ls empty run back to Achenar can get real old, real quick.

It's true Achenar is one of the prettiest stars in the bubble. :)

It is a shame, however, that ED does not yet show rotational oblateness for stars. Achenar rotates very rapidly IRL, so fast that scientists estimate is it "Mentos-shaped", rather than spherical. Wikipedia.

Exactly what I was about to say. There are a few more stars which are also Mentos-shaped.
