Whats that traffic census thing all about?

Actually I quite like this idea and may well start using it myself - adds a bit of flavour to the procedure.

Make it simple, when aligned with the docking bay and with your docking/undocking clearance, use the following sentences:
- [Ship] incoming,
- [Ship] outgoing.

And remember to always stick to the green lights side of the slit.

In lieu of proper traffic control it is the prudent commander who announces his position in the traffic circuit and uses his landing lights.
=> guess your ship is called 'La Calypso', right ?

lol
as if entering the Slot in fun places was not Hard enough Already ...
people can now be distracted by comms chatter & light flashing during the most tricky procedures in the game
..
I can see it will not be long before the thread " I was distracted by someone playing Close Encounters of the Absurd Kind" in the slot of a space station , while I was on approach / leaving said station
.
surely typing of messages / flashing of lights is not something to be recommended .... it's going to end badly for sure.
..
I can see it now on galaxy live news at 11 .. Today in the Sol System two hundred ships of various types were involved in the biggest accidental collision we have ever seen.
it started when CMDR "x" accidentally stopped in the Slot to Flash CMDR "y" who was exiting the station .. CMDR "Y" flashed back , this resulted in several other pilots Flashing on Approach / Exit & then several more Yelling "coming in" / "Going out"
sadly CMDR "y" was so busy flashing & chatting , that he missed the Station warnings & suffered the consequences .. even more sadly the 199 other ships involved in this debacle were so busy with comms chatter & Flashing lights , that several were accidentally hit by the station on exit / entry .. others took emergency action & in their haste to avoid the Caos in the slot engaged in a game of space Dominoes , colliding with each other , colliding with system security ships & in many cases colliding with the Space Station , both internally & externally ... ship debris & ejected cargo look to be a hazard for some hours to come.
,,,
in the strangest part of the whole Affair .. CMDR "x" who one must say was the instigator of this epic disaster .. managed to enter the station unharmed , dock successfully & conclude their business totally Oblivious to the unfolding Catastrophe.
who upon exiting the station shortly after , was Recorded on comms complaining about the dismal state the station & its environs were in & how it was another sure sign that the federation budget cuts to civilian space infrastructure were sure to lead to a huge accident...
..
the only comment so far from the authorities has been that they are aware of the problems "Flash mobs" pose & also of the dangers of unwanted / unwarranted excess comms chatter on approach / exit of docking & are considering a gagging bill to discourage the comms chatter & will be looking at options to disable the lights of any and all ships engaged in Distracting other pilots during station approach & exit.

She is indeed the good ship Calypso.

Seems like it worked well for CMDR X!

I have to admit, I've never been anywhere that was so busy with approaching and departing commanders that a bit of comms chatter was distracting; and I just have my lights on so I'm easier to spot in case someone does leave / enter in a hurry.

I used to do a bit of flying and it's standard practice when landing / taking off at a non-towered airport (no traffic control) to announce your position in the traffic pattern on the local traffic frequency. Seems to me that every space station in Elite is a non-towered approach. I would like to see other CMDRs calling in their approach or departure, but that's just me. Each to their own.

Automatic - station local message: "Incoming ship docking port 11" (or ship egress) when docking is granted or a request to launch given.

It seems that every CG i do now (in Mobius) has some commander calling ships in and out. is this some cutting edge game dynamic that ive overlooked or a kind of anorak trainspotter thing?

It's a Mobius thing, to support cmdrs who do not understand the radar and are too visually impaired to notice a conda right in front of them.

"Hey Jim, this is John. Just wanted to point out that massive behemoth 200m in front of you is in fact a spaceship."

"Thanks John, I though it was a gigantic space banana. What should I do now?"

"Try going around it. I repeat: around it. Do not go through it, and no matter what, don't try to peel it."

J/k. All seems a bit excessive but better safe than sorry I guess.
