you can buy any ship you want as long as you don't increase your rank acquiring the money to buy it.
OK, It's just I was starting a new game and noticed that I could start with one of my kickstarter ships in the starter system . I can start with 40.000cr in a Cobra MkIII (All C/D rated), 2x Fixed Med Multis, 2x Gimbled Small pulse ... It seems like (if I were so inclined) I could reak a little havok.
Edit .... Oh, almost forgot .. I also have an Imp Eagle (at least I think it's Imp) parked at the station too.

If you can do that, I'll restart my game and use my alliance chieftain that's majorly engineered, or my annie, in open play
That's not how it works .. if you backed to a certain level back in the Kickstarter/Backers App days, you got access to about 8 or so different starter positions (example: Start in an explorer cobra Mk 3 in shinrata with 40.000 credits or, a Bounty hunter in an imperial eagle in imperial space. )
If you don't have these starts you cannot start in anything other than the starter sidewinder.
With the addition of the new starter system it seems I get to choose the starter system OR the kickstarter system (ie. shinrata)

I thought you could rank up and stay in the starter zone, but you just can't return if you leave having ranked up, no?
I've been playing a little in the starter zone (Not with the Cobra MK III) .. I couldn't find anything other than "D" rated .. I do think that if a Kickstarter got bored, they could go on a killing spree and kind of undermine what the starter systems were created for.
Nope you get kicked out for killing other players.
