Whats the current death penalty system?

i have played jumpgate and eve online

Jumpgate was fine you only lost carg and equipment

eve online could cost ya everything if ya where dumb enough

now i dont have much time a week to play i have no longer funn playing a game where some dumb ...... with 1 hand on the stick and the other on his personal stick reduces your ship to ruble only cause he has the better ship and nothing to fear

so before i buy this game i want to know whats the death penalty .. google just gives me suggestion and discussion ... from february 2013 and such noneseens

if you finnaly got into an cobra mk 3 or even hauler mark 6 or 9 or whatever...

and 1-2-3 dumb.... gang bang you on docking or exiting station..

to you loose everything and your ass is placed in an sidewinder again and all you have left is the sum on the bank account???

or do ya have to pay an repair bill wich is MUCH small than the price of the ship purchased

Like eve online, there is an insurance system. Unlike eve online, it covers fitted equipment as well (but not cargo). The fee is 10% of the value of the ship I think. Losing a ship, even a high end one, is rather trivial atm. This will probably be adjusted to be a little harsher on release, but honestly I think FD is aiming for a somewhat idiot proof game so it likely won't be too harsh.

It sounds like eve. If you are dumb enough you can lose everything.

But that gives you exclusive right to make a thread about it on the forums and blame frontier :)

if you lose what is currently the most expensive ship in the game that has a full load of equipment it will cost less than 400k to get it all back (at present - prices can go up as well as down) that may sound like a lot but when the ship costs 6 million credits and the extras cost about 2 million you'll see its not a lot at all really.

you can easily make 400k back in a couple of cargo runs.

as long as you keep enough spare cash to cover your insurance costs with enough left over for trading you should never run into a problem.

Do note that I don't think the whole death thing is fully implemented yet.
I seriously doubt that we will be able to buy back our ships at 10% in the future, atleast not without paying a constant price.

On death you lose your cargo but keep your credits, and currently in the Beta can either:

1. Choose a free Sidewinder.

or..

2. If you have enough credits, pay approx. 5% of its purchase price to get your previous ship back. With the option to also buy back your ship's equipment at the same rate.
Note: you will probably need some more money spare to get you going again i.e. buy cargo, etc.

In the released game you'll also have additional options to transfer to another ship you own (returned to you from storage) or borrow money to buy back your ship if you don't have enough credits. Money you borrow will need to be paid back and you may have to complete missions for the money lender.

Also, fines and bounties on you when you die will be added to the amount you need to pay.

The full details of how this should work in the released game are here:

Yes currently there is a very generous "insurance" system that means you can effectively buy back your ship for about 5% of cost, though you have to have this value in your bank account when you die. You also of course keep your bank account when you die, so as long as you're smart about it and take some simple precautions you shouldn't have to worry too much about losing "everything".

Personally I pine for the perma-death of Frontier with the big ole RIP grave stone to rub it in. But i'm the sort of guy who likes perma-death survival games like don't starve and Dayz... I realise that is not for everyone.

There will be an Ironman mode with perma-death, completely separated from all the normal players.
