What's the deal with the skewed battle rewards?

The Marlinists have turned in 60% more combat bonds but are roughly neck and neck for progress with the Monarchists in the CG, and the monarchists have way lower tier thresholds. Have combat CGs always been like this?

Up until now all opposed combat CGs have been exactly even in terms of final target and tier distribution.

This one is a bit different because it's more closely tied to a story than the previous ones have been - essentially, the Marlinists are one system against the might of the Imperial Navy, so they have a harder task to defend the system long enough for their transports to escape than the Empire do to enforce the blockade. On the other hand, the Marlinists get a partial victory at Tier 3, whereas the Empire has to get to Tier 5 first to stop them getting that partial victory.

This also has the consequence that the relative efforts match a lot more closely to the supporter numbers on both sides, keeping the final result unclear until the end ... though it looks like the Empire might just have a slight edge - whereas the numerically even ones have generally been obvious walkovers a few hours in.

It's a bit of an experiment on Frontier's part, I expect, but it seems to be working.

Frontier were experimenting to see if they can make Independents cry as much as Imperials.... we have nearly twice the goal; notwithstanding that, far higher tier thresholds (which the higher total compounds by making them EVEN higher in raw terms), and all the chat I've seen has been "yeah that's pretty realistic RP-wise, fair play"😂

The Marlinists also have the home court advantage - their station has a shipyard and outfitting (the Imperial megaship does not) and they have the firepower of massive megaships to support them. Sure, the sides may be asymmetric, but this is a war, not a basketball game.

They are equal. The rebels are opposite to the Empire. So it would be quicker for the rebels to achieve t3, t4, t5. Where as the Empire gains the lower tiers quicker.
