What's the "grid"

I hear about it, on the forums. I've seen it used for making buildings on youtube videos. Is that all it's used for.?

thanks

Can you give some context to your question? A grid is a box split into smaller sections to build on

I think heather means all the topics about building and path grids.

She asks what the purpose for it is.

Well, it's for building on a grid so you can get better alignments.
This grid however is only available in the path and building menu so it doesn't work the same as with older tycoon games.
And for building it only works for the building you are then working on.

planet coaster simulates a 3 dimensional world but with todays standard equipment of flat LCD monitors we just have 2 dimensions. "the grid" is a useful system to break out of the 2D limitations - at least visually - and gives us the opportunity to place objects inside a virtual room - and not just on a virtual piece of paper.

I don't agree it needs it.

Building on a grid is so 1999.

If it where optional, fine, but I won't be using it. One of my main frustrations with all the old games is the grid based system which made it look so.... blocky.

I dont understand why people need a universal grid, what could you possibly use it for that you can't do without a grid?

But I like lining up scenery with my paths and rides D:

I like the idea of a "snap to grid" tick box for placing scenery that creates the same grid that's created when building walls/roofs so it's easier for people to place scenery along a grid. There should be 4m, 2m and 1m option for the grid.

^ yep, it would be a useful option for quickly sketching out a basic plan for your park. Having scenery items snap into place means quick and organised symmetry, which just "feels satisfying" and efficient when building. Then later come back and move some things more precisely off grid for more natural look.

Exactly. It's absurd that people don't see why it'd be useful.

It's not that I don't find it useful.

It's just that I believe it should not be a major focus point as several other problems still need to be addressed.
If it takes a lot of time and programming (which I don't think it is either) then please don't.

I can understand people want a park-wide grid. It fits your OCD. :D

But the easiest workaround is just selecting your park entrance, open the building editor and just use the grid from there.

You can put 4 wall pieces in each corner of the map and there you have your park-wide grid. It's 10 seconds work. And when you're done placing your building you make a new one. Or select it and split it from the building. It will still have the right grid as long as you dont move it.

Some people see in linear, others don't, just one of those things! I personally cannot stand using the grid.
