Horizons What's the minimum FSD range I need to reach Colonia?

Every time I try to plot a course there it says "maximum distance exceeded"

Don't try to plot a course in one go :)

Take your current jump range, work out loaded % of it, and scroll across the galaxy map in units of that :) You can't plot beyond 1000 LY, but 920-990Ly seems to be the sweet spot for long range plotting - just remember to have an emergency scoopable in range :D

I decided I'd give Colonia a go, but I can't get there. I have a 24 range Keelback. Obviously I need more range?

I did it in a 17ly Python, however I did hit a patch where I got the same issue, I solved it by going directly down about 200ly. If you started at Quince, as a lot of people do and headed horizontally through the galaxy there's a patch that becomes difficult for ships with shortish jump ranges. Jaques is actually a few hundred ly lower than quince in a plane where the stars are thicker, just watch for the brown dwarf layer, if you hit it drop down another 50 ly as they tend tpo congregate in a layer also and you will be fine.

Thank you. That sucks. Why the 1000ly lock?

Nah, 24 ly is more than fine. I just came back with a 22 ly FAS (and 3 jumps per tank). I'd guess the minimum range would be about 10ish ly, if you have enough fuel capacity to jump through occasional groups of unscoopables (or some friendly tankers in range).

Another question, if I may, is there adequate supplies out in Colonia or should I pack all my "A" rated gear? I was going to strip the keelback down, but then thought I may not be able to purchase it back once out there....

If youre rich you can buy them now and pay to have them sent over when you arrive. My cobra should be arriving shortly. I took all my goodies with me in the Conda though!

Don't worry if, on the rare occasions to Colonia, you hit a string of unscoopables and look like running out of fuel. Switch your Galaxy Map to plot Economic and you will find a scoopable very close by without burning too much fuel.

The star density out to Colonia is so good, you don't have to worry about running low.

The A-rated stuff will slow you down. You need light weight, so need to run with D modules, except for the FSD which must be A rated, and the best fuel scoop you can take.

Now that modules can be transported, buy your modules at base first and ship the ones you really need. (Assuming you have the money. If not earn more money doing stuff out at Colonia and ship them later. I had fun using an Eagle out there shooting up NPC pirates at RES sites, ship and modules bought locally.)

At least two AFMU, preferably three, as AFMU cannot repair themselves.

I've only ever used one AFMU going to Colonia. In a small ship, space may be at a premium. They can be repaired with materials (if you have the right ones) on board. I am running back to the bubble with only one AFMU.

But now with the outpost stations established along the route out there, I should imagine it is possible to repair your ship using a stop at these. Can't confirm that as I haven't used them, but the most basic of stations offer ship repair.

Be thankful, it used to be 100 LY. Also, be aware you may hit patches where automatic navigation does not work and you have to plot manually using the spiderweb.

Didn't someone take a Sidey on the Distant Worlds trip?
Yes. In fact two Sidewinders have flown to Beagle Point and back. One had 22ly range and the second 17ly with an SRV.
