whats the officailly blessed way to get a second account?

I'd really like to have a second account. In this case, to got to Colonia, but maybe also to explore some angles of game play I've not yet tried.

I'm really a multi-account guy. In STO, I had 8 or so. In SWTOR it was 41 (a number way beyond their specs, an artifact of their server consolidation). It's the way i play. And I play alternatively, not concurrently - no multiboxing here.

I understand that right now I'm expected to buy a second game for a second account (I seriously detest that fact, and It's certainly not set in stone that I will actually go and pay 25 or 50 Euros for that privilege. I would be willing to pay a more modest sum, but that's how things are at the moment.)

So having said all that, what's the officially blessed procedure to get one? My game is via steam, and steam wont sell me a second one. So I would have to go to the frontier store and buy there.

Can I just use my already know game account and buy a second game? Or do I need to re-register, say, as Ezekiel Hickenloper, with a separate email address? And if I do - what then? Can I then pay with my normal Paypal or credit card (which, of course, both divulge I'm actually Max Mustermann)? Is the store checking those? And the store wants a delivery address - I have no idea why, for a digital good, but they seem to insist. So what to give there? Santa Claus, North Pole 7, Greenland?

This is all pretty confusing. Can anyone shine light on this?

I can confirm your second account needs a separate email address. With it's own Frontier Store account. I used my work email for this, just yesterday in fact. To get around the Paypal conundrum, I just used a Visa card.

If you play on xbox you can just create new free xbox account and use family share on same xbox to use other xbox accounts games on this new xbox account on same xbox one console. Different xbox account then give you new free frontier/game account for elite. Same will probably be possible on PS4 if i remember right how multiple PSN accounts for on Sony's console.

On PC there buying new copy is the only way to get other accounts.

Easiest way (same way I did it) is to create a throwaway gmail account. I used my normal one with a 1 added on the end, passwords saved in web browser so never have to remember them and I've e-mailed each account with the password for the other account so if I forget one I can get in the other and find it out again, double safety :) I also use this 2nd email acc for anything I fear may result in spam as it's nice not to have that on my main e-mail account.

Sign up to the online store with the new e-mail, pay as you normally would want to (they don't check and if they do they don't care).

Don't re-install the game. Just open the launcher via steam, go to "options" in the top right and "logout" (not the machine one). Then type in your alternate e-mail and frontier store password and off you go. To change back just logout and re-log in with the original email and frontier store password.
I set my Frontier store passwords to be similar too so I can cycle between accounts pretty quickly.. Well as quickly as exiting and re-entering the game goes anyway.
Occasionally you'll be asked to verify your e-mail as it'll recognise you are switching about. Easy enough to do, never had an issue with it, takes 30 seconds but then again it only happens once every 20-30 times I swap accounts at the moment so it's no fuss at all.

Personally I waited for a sale, got the base game for £15 or so and decided I didn't need horizons on the 2nd account so may or may not buy that at a later stage but not at present. For me the cost is minor, my biggest irritation with the whole thing is that the cosmetic packs I have are not transferred across to this 2nd account. Other than that I find it fine really, easy and functional. As you said it's alternate not multi-box same way as me so no need to install again :)

Let me know if you have any further questions.

WHAT?? Outrage! Frontier, I demand justice! (where's the tag for 36 Point, Red, Blinking when you need it?)

*sigh* well, kind of.

And they don't even have any rebate/discount for PCs out there right now. Around Christmas it was 15€, but now there is not a single source that sells for less than the frontier shop. Its so bad, some of the big price comparison portals have completely delisted ED :-/

Just in case FD read this I'll throw it in...

I want a second CMDR. I do not mind buying a second save slot. I have $130 worth of cosmetics that I would like to be able to use on both accounts and of course I want to be able to switch CMDRs easily (without having to have two e-mails and passwords and all that). Please consider this in "Beyond 2.4".

that double safety isn't going to do much the moment you give away such detailed record of your security routine. ;-)
no need to get paranoid either, and it isn't that unusual, but you never know who can possibly read this, and when. there's no single good reason to disclose this.

also, i bet you've been told already not to reuse (similar) passwords. they mean it :D

The easiest way in my opinion is to have one account through the Frontier store and the other through Steam. The same keyboard bindings and Joystick controls will work with both accounts.

i did it that way too, they both work seamlessly alongside each other - just what the OP is looking for.

Wow. PC players got shafted here, big time. Why is this not more of a widely complained about issue? Consoles get free alt accounts while PC users have to buy the whole game again. That's quite the two fingered salute from Frontier in my opinion.

I would purchase a second CMDR slot if it was a reasonable price. I think it could be a good addition to the store, and a popular one no doubt.

I hope they add it some day.

Also though, for those that did go the separate acc route, there should be an option introduced to merge your accounts (if you choose).

+1 for this. I hope frontier is listening...

It's more a function of how the console accounts work and Frontier can't do much about it. The said, PC players get all the third party goodies like Captains Log, EDDI, EDDiscovery...I'll happily stay on PC and pay for the second accoount

Eh, the fact 1 e-mail address on googlemail contains the password to the other e-mail address on googlemail isn't a major "routine". They'd still have to breach the gmail security and find my account... If they breach the security once whether they have the password or breach the 2nd account the same way they did the first is immaterial :)

On the similar FDev accounts. They are similar to each other but not similar to my other passwords. Again the thinking being if someone gets into one of my Elite accounts whats to stop them getting into my 2nd account the same way they got into my first. Again assuming they'd already found and realised the passwords were similar..

I get exactly what you are saying but I did put a bit of thought into my method and disclosure of method of not forgetting passwords :)

Buy the game, again. Use a different email address. That's it. You can log in/ out in the same install. I have 3 accounts using the same install.

Since they can't stop it, they could give PC users the ability to have a second account without paying for it instead of rinsing us for something that many other games wouldn't and which half the player base get for no additional cost.

Have to admit I didn't know that console players could just get a second account for free like that and really? I'm not amused at all considering that many PC players have asked for a second account slot since before I started playing. Don't misunderstand me, I don't begrudge the console players having it at all.
