Does your pause button work?

When I hit p for pause it takes me to the game menu, but the game continues to run in the background. Is this the same for all of you?

Yup. Joys of an always-online game. Same as WoW.

"Pause" just brings up the game menu, but the game keeps on going.

I don't know what you expected. Have you ever seen an online game that could be paused?

Also please use the forum search next time. There are already many threads about this. Gotta try to keep this place a little cleaner...

Or rather, they should add <pause> functionality.

One thing when you have kids and want to play is that you can't just yell over at the next room "I'm coming when I managed to escape the interdiction, scoop some fuel, fly to the next starport and land!"

If baby cries you run. Interdiction or not.

Nobody's found a way to pause the internet. You have to disconnect. Personnaly I just drop out of SC or leave my compuer running overnight, only log out for updates.

EDIT - I only realized the other day that NPC's can drop out of SC into your location, I guess we appear as a USS to others. Anyway, the NPC scanned me, saw no cargo in my type-7 and then buggered off.

You would have thought they would remove the pause button after postponing offline.

If you want to actually pause things, save and quit to main menu - I believe your ship will hang around for a short time and then disappear (has anyone tested this recently)

Someone clicks pause and the whole universe stops

It wouldn't take long before we never get anywhere.

I wonder how many people are 'paused' at any one time, is there actually a time when nobody on-line is in the options menu.

Ships still disappear instantly. That's why people still exploit this to escape fights or interdictions.

Or changed the binding description to menu or in game options.
Might help avoid any confusion

Edit - which reading back thru it seems I've been ninja'd to by others - all because I was busy writing out the post I first started which berated you all for not just winding the fella up by saying our pause buttons worked fine!

Time for bed I think :p

Impossible... how would you pause AN ONLINE GAME. Geez, please. We already went over this a couple of times. You are not alone, you are always in an universe connected to other players.

Actually there is no reason they couldn't make it actually pause the game in solo mode.

Sorry but didn't you read what I said? You are not alone! Even in 'solo' mode you are connected to the same eco system with everyone else.
Their missions affect your missions, their reputation affect your factions and so on... You can't pause that, why can't you see that?

I think you'll need a baseball bat and the physical addresses of a few 'members' for that ;)
Ever seen "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back"? Yeah, THAT way

I still don't see it. For when in solo mode, where is the interaction?

If you are referring to trade or similar, check rare goods - the known routes should be swiped empty by now. But they aren't... because there is no interaction, even when you're not soloing. Which is a good thing, by the way. Otherwise it would be a game of pure chance, like rolling dice. This may be fun when you're addicted to gambling, but otherwise not.

Trade is affected and shared just as much. Rares are an exception, every player has its own stack available as stated a few days ago by the devs.
