What's the point of a better frame shift drive...

If I'm still forced to make a jump to a system between my destination system, just because it's "on the way"? I just upgraded my FSD and there's this system I want to get to, which is will within my new range, but no, I have to make a stop at a system halfway in between just coz that's how the lines are drawn. Not cool

You have two options for plotting routes in the Galaxy Map: Economic and Fastest.

The economic one takes less fuel, but requires you to jump in every intermediate system.

The fastest will make 30 Ly+ jumps, taking 50% of your fuel.

Of course, you can plot your own routes yourself and find an intermediate jump distance (10-15 Ly), to be fast while not refueling after each jump

You need to set the Navigation to "fastest route" in the galaxy map, the default is "most economical route". Then you get a lot more straight lines and less stops :)

You don't have to. The lines default to the most economical routes through the systems, since several short hops uses less fuel than one long one (long jumps use more fuel). You can select quickest (fewest jumps) in the Navigation tab, and your cockpit nav panel will show all systems you can reach in one jump.

For me selecting Eco or Fastest does no change at all in the route even after deselecting the previous one. I'n not convinced this works. Does it work or are you just thinking it does because it has a choice?

If your route doesn't change then either you don't have the required jump range or you need to put a ticket in. It works fine for me

I'm actually using economical since I have the time and patience...mostly. It's nice because I can just do a quick deep fuel scoop to top out at each system while lining myself up for the next jump around the star. I need to time it to see if it's faster going steadily economical, or haul ass with long pit stops when needed.

Use "fastest" route instead of "economic". Eco route makes you do all the possible jumps between you and your target (which seems sort of logical, as long jumps -seem- to use more fuel... one 20LY jump uses more fuel than 4x5LY jumps, for example ... I might be wrong with that, but that's about how I've interpreted my fuel bar usage).

It's one or the other, can't have both selected.

If you're trying to plot a route to a system 100+ ly away, it takes an age for the little blue lines to propagate to that system. There has to be a better way to plot a route. I've said before I think stuff like this was designed to stop you doing anything else for 10 minutes.

I've found this too, what I've had to do after changing to fastest is to select a different system, set the route to that system then reset it back to the system you want to go too.
I guess I should of ticketed this really .

Or instead of plot route, you click on the star system directly? If it's in your range, the selected target is what's marked in your navcomputer. Then you just jump. Alternatively, which is a lot faster btw, you don't use the galaxy map at all. Left hand side navigation, select target system, done.

This only works up to 20 Ly. Systems located further away won't appear. But definitely the quickest/simplest solution for mid-range jumps.

I think it also defaults back to economic route after a game restart too, one to watch out for, especially during rare goods runs of 160ly
