What's the point of Armor Piercing in Rail Gun Sturdy mount engineering ?

What's the point of Armor Piercing in Rail Gun Sturdy engineering ?

I read everywhere that anything above 100% armour piercing is useless and that Sturdy mount for Rail Gun are only good for reducing thermal load.

Any information ?

All i can say.. Game Design at it's "finest".

You get it correct anyway. Sturdy is only for reducing thermal load.

They was just too lazy to make anything more unique for Railguns or any weapon.

Just you look at Focused plasma lol.

Yes, anything above 70 armour piercing is currently useless since that's the biggest hardness value (Cutter and Corvette).

Note that armour piercing is not a percentage, it is an absolute value that is opposed to the target's hardness to determine how much damage reduction takes place. It is not to be confused with breach %, which is the chance your weapon will penetrate the target and potentially deal internal damage.

hmmm they really needs to organise things better.

There is so much useless stats like ammo clip size reduction for Sturdy laser when laser has no ammunition...

Now focused laser increase hull penetration but according to Coriolis on Class 3 it's adds nothing. Well for this matter it's only usefull for Class 1 laser, so the parameters is still needed but it should be removed when applied to high laser class for clarity. My mistake i needed to set opponent as Anaconda to see the benefits on increased Hull Penetration for laser.

It's an example of Frontier developing content without a QC team to help change vetting. In theory it sounds great, until one realises that once you are at a maximal piercing value, more doesn't translate to anything (beyond potentially one-shotting MRM). It's not laziness, it's just a fundamental outcome of most of the developers not playing the game and not having an internal team that does, either.

By the time stuff makes Beta, it's almost impossible to get major archetype changes through and fixed. Something a QC team should have far less problems with.

Sturdy mount is a godsend for Imperial Rails, though, as an unrelated hot take (the puns!). Secondaries are your friend (I also hate secondaries with a passion almost as hot as stock imperial rails, but I digress).

So does this still work the same way in 3.0?

Also, does AP drop off like damage at the same point? If so, would a higher AP affect that at all?

75 for the Type 10.

If you carefully line your enemies up on a single line in combat, you can damage them all. This is a method that can be combined with forcing them to Friendly Fire themselves to death and even collide with each other.

I use this method when fighting 4 Elite Corvettes/Anacondas at once. Always make sure they shoot each other and try to line up the shots or hide close at ones tail.

there must be a reason, guardian gauss are with more thenn 100 pierce by default, and them beeing able to rip thargoids apart

Yes I am wondering if the Thargoid Marauder Scouts have a high Hardness value and thus boosting it for rail guns and such would work against them since conventional weapons work against them but not very well.

I engaged a Marauder scout in a Sidewinder so only had size 1 weapons and even with a rail gun had to use over half the ammo to take one scout down.

Would be interesting to see
Test a regular class 1 rail gun again a class 1 rail gun with maximised penetration value from engineering against Marauder Scouts.

**Edit**

Just checked the Charged Plamsa has a value of 80 so I am guessing that the scouts may be close to that
