Whats the point of buying skins?

Whats the point of buying skins for your ship if you can't see it while you play? There should be some sort of thirdperson option. I want to be able to take nice screenshots and seeing my ship near astroids and beautiful scenery, having memories of places I visit while I explore the universe.

For those people who paid a lot of money for the game (I payed 120 Euro), in my opinion should have access to all skins for free.

Dont even bring this topic up, its immersion killing.

it's a way to raise money fro the project too.
nothing wrong with selling things in my opinion as long as it's not anything that spoils balance in game. also lets grouped identify each other in dog fights, i just wish all types had skins available.

No point to it really but then what's the point of having your real life car/bike/other mode of transport painted up in any particular colour scheme? In real life you pay extra to have certain colours and/or colour schemes and, I assume, you'd get the one you want if you had a choice. If you want it then you'll buy it and, if you don't, you'll leave it. So... no point to it except it's there as an optional extra.

Here's a counter thought... Perhaps the devs could program in some different interior trims? Then you could customise the outside of your ship and have your interior all matched up too. :)

YES! Or they could make like a drone that will launch another drone to watch your ship from a distance, and then you will see what the drone of the drone sees via a matcbox sized
screen on your control panel. Problemo solved!

Thats right! And with that single infallible logic the entire history of gaming has been eradicated.

I only bought one skin but it was an expensive one (£10) but I bought it to help the Devs and give a little more support. (and yes, I've paid a lot too, £200 for Alpha which is roughly 250euros??) But I didn't mind buying the skin even though I'll rarely see it.

I dread to think how much I've sunk into this game! - but anyway, it'll all be amazingly fantastic :)

I did wonder - they need to give us a F10 screenshot with Hide HUD and Show ship

A "show ship" option would be good, I think, but a lot of people would probably complain about immersion issues. I've [quite literally] just started reading This Thread to see what other ideas have been proposed.

Some of you guys have the worst examples LOL. Really? License plate? (I can get out of my car and see it = third person view) As for the money going for production... Yet awesome but a lot of people could care less. They just want to play And if you pay real money for a paint scheme. There needs to be a way to see it other that the outfitting screen. I for one am fine with supporting the game and that's why I purchased beta. But I want to see the paint I bought. This topic is warn out now I know, but if only having a third person panning view while at a space station or in the hangar would be great. In a pole I put up about this topic in beta discussions shows. Most people want it. There is no Immersion break if it is a limited view. We obviously don't want to use a third person camera to look around the side of asteroids to see who is coming. Or have a HUD in that view. It is needed for recording viewing and pictures for those who like and that's all they have really wanted this for. So read the post all they way through and stop making assumptions that people are trying to cheat or something. And immersion is relative... It's a game and there is already Plenty of "immersion breaks" built into the game if you want to go there. Oh and the Devs have already said there will be some type of third person view anyway. So there shouldn't be any whining on either side.

If you can get out of your car and see your license plate in 3rd person - you either know a nice gentleman on a street corner, have some horticultural skills, or are plain screaming bonkers :D

Fully with you on taking a selfie showing my shiny new paint job off.. -> can do it in real life, so why not- F10 with HUD & camera jumps outside !

or you are able to park, and then get out ?

:D that is still first person - as you, the viewer (first person), are doing the viewing, you are not the 2nd person (viewee), in this case the number plate - and not 3rd person viewing a viewer observing the scene.

The devs already mentioned they have plans to facilitate 3rd person view in some way in the future, cannot recall what the details were.

*GRUMBLE* I mean at the landing pads. So it doesn't really matter - has no impact on gameplay

It's a great way to raise money for the project without negatively impacting gameplay.

Also, I hope your car is painted gloss pink in real life. You can't see it while you're driving so it doesn't matter right?

Seriously, there's been talk of a drone system or some kind of 3rd person camera for screenshots that would have restrictions in place so you couldn't gain a gameplay advantage from it.

No, that wouldn't be an example of third person.

Would you prefer that they sold ships who where op or guns that did extra damage instead? It's the correct way to give players the option of customization without making the game pay 2 win. If you don't like the skins you don't buy it. It has no effect on your gameplay what so ever.
