What's the point of the Funeral Ship?

I'm not trolling or lamenting anything, I was just wandering if they have a point right now or if they are there for future content.

They are for missions which you can get which normally from what I've seen they normally are targets for you to pew pew for a reward.

Don't recall seeing any missions for them, unless you mean the "Kill X number of Traders" missions?

They are just there for flavour. I'd say immersion, but after seeing several in a row, its either immersion breaking, or a hell of a lot of people choose to have their dead bodies paraded through space... not sure which. :D

I've run into the Funeral Barge about a dozen times, the Wedding Barge a couple of times. They can get a little frustrating when you're hunting for something specific. I usually boost away the second I see that familiar shape of five ships show up on the scanner and get ready to jump back into supercruise.

I guess they're there for flavour, and for pirates looking for a bit of mayhem, maybe? I've never tried cargo scanning them and they tend to come with an escort of four ships ranging from Sidewinders to Cobras to Type-6s.

There were missions in beta to kill x amount of funeral ships and x amount of wedding guests.

I was never able to get the funeral or weddings to spawn in a USS in beta, but now in release I see them all the time, but haven't seen the missions.

Right now I believe they are there to populate the universe and enhance the immersion. Makes sense to find people going about their business in our travels! :)

The first time I saw them they gave a nice flavour to the game. A welcome change from the wrecked ships with cargo floating around or the multiple clean ships I keep on finding now but really they show up far too often. Some evenings it seems like every 5th USS has either a wedding or funeral.

Think I only ran into one funeral procession so far (what can I say, been out exploring a lot), but the funeral ship itself was wanted. That led to a bit of pewpew, which in turn provoked a response from the escorts, which then turned wanted as well.. It was massacre. It was good.

It's the sort of encounter which would make sense if we were using the old Elite jump drive style of travel - but you have to wonder why they'd be out there in normal space under the current mechanics.

I came across a funeral barge the other night that was wanted and helped them save the expense of a coffin with a bit of pew pew.
I did have the rest of the party start shooting at me though and they were all clean, so after the barge popped, I boosted and hit FSD :p

I had the same but with a wedding one which was wanted with a decent bounty so I killed it and then killed all the guest's as they started shooting at me and became wanted :)
