What's the point ? (What is odyssey)

Does Odyssey add anything, that effects the anything prior to odyssey ?
  • You can walk around and interact with things, but buildings that were added in horizons are non intractable
  • Some new ranks were added
  • Docking computer can detect suitable landing sites and automatically land ships on planetary surfaces
  • Some visual enhancements to ships
  • A new UI for missions, outfitting etc. (Some of it is kind of meh)
  • Wings are now teams, why?
  • The DDS gives planets a filter to find various geological and biological features (Still can't figure this out, its all blue)
  • 9 new Engineers for suits and weapons for odyssey content only (So, yea nothing for ships...ok)
  • Many new new settlements (Oh Ok, more things to land at)
  • 5 new post-Elite ranks called "Elite Stars" (This does not seem to be retroactive, and seems to have started counting once dropped. IE play for 5 years and some one who played for a month could be 2* when you should be at 5*)
Do you even need a ship to play odyssey ?
  • For on foot combat -> no
  • For on foot missions -> no.
  • Explore a planet with in taxi range -> no.
  • Visit places with the bubble -> no.
  • Going out side of the bubble to scan plants -> yes. (Why? Why do I want to scan plants? Does it make my ship better?)
Does any of the new concepts such as on foot combat zones, missions, etc. Add anything to that benefits the game prior to odyssey? (Remove all on foot related items from odyssey and all that's left is...)
  • New planet tech (Broken?)
  • Docking computer is better at landing (What's a docking computer? I can put a DDS or a SRV there, heck even a cargo rack!)
  • DSS with a blue filter, for finding really spread out resources (Looks like crap)
  • New UI (Could still use work)
  • Elites stars (Prestige, grind, no real use)
  • Wing = Team (Why?)
Is odyssey a game within a game?
  • Yes, it is a game where you shoot things, scan plants, and ride in taxies.
  • Anything that you do on foot has no effect on your ship which should be the most important thing right?
Why was a DLC pushed when horizons issues that still have not been resolved? (Just to name 2 of many, but these are important, unless elite is a single player game with no focus on multiplayer interactions)
  • Wings and multi-crew still do not working 100%
  • Instancing is still not working 100%
There was very, very little content that build upon existing content. Is on foot stuff going to go the way of power play? There has been quite a few no's to features players have been asking for, yes there was a demand for space legs but I don't think there was such a high demand for a FPS inside an already existing game. None of the existing game loops where really built upon, it seems to have just added clutter and a grind for the sake of a grind.

There is also a massive disconnect between Ship, SRV, and Feet. Data that you acquire in one is not accessible to the other. A good example is the SRV can see the items inside a settlement that it can't pick up because those are for on foot. But soon as you exit the SRV poof no more icons. Either this is a bug or some real bad game design. I have heard similar things with the whole scanning things on a planet with the suit.

I'm just gonna say this one time, yes I know there's already a lot of posts about where's my ship interiors, full VR integration blah blah. I'd like those things to this is more of what is Odyssey meant to be? Cause it sure didn't add much to existing game play. Not even one new ship or weapon? Just more grind.

If any of the points I made are incorrect I will edit them. I sure I missed a few things. Sorry for long read =D

Edit: fixed a missing word.

So what is Odyssey? Cause it's not a space game.

Odyssey is a first step to spacelegs. I don’t think anyone on the forums realise how difficult it was to implement this simple step with a reduced team, financial shenanigans and in the current climate.
It's not our responsibility to "realize" what their working conditions are. Not for Elite, not for any product. if you are charging consumers for what is advertised as a complete product, it is irrelevant what your process is or is not. A complete product is expected either way.
