Whats the purpose of the hangar?

When i dock on Azeban City there is the possibility to go to the hangar. But i see no further options there. Am i missing something?

You have to enter the hangar for repairs and refitting. No need to do it otherwise, and if you select either of those options, your ship will automatically be lowered into the hangar anyway.
