What's the rush?

The rush for me is that i am stuck in Viper for far too long... more or less 100 hours. I have killed 1024 ships in it. And if I will not trade 3/4 ships are out of my reach. I cannot even make money to get ASP this is the problem. After 100 hours of doing all professions and mostly bounty hunting i have 6 mil. Asp makes sense as far as i knwo when you have at least 10 mil in pocket. Enjoy the ride does not fit in here, as i am not enyoing anymore in the same bloody ship.
Also game is completely bugged and still in phase of balancing so for example assasination missions do not complete.

100 hours in a viper? You should definitely have enough for a decently kitted out Cobra if you like. Although if you are enjoying bounty hunting then viper is arguably better.

And ill argue against the completely bugged statement. Frontier was completely bugged. Neverwinter Nights 2 was a horrendous bugfest on launch. ED by comparison is pretty sweet. And FD have been very quick to fix a wide number of issues (and sometimes breaking things as well, but being as dev myself, i can understand that very well).

B-but trading is the only worthy thing a-and you make millions a-and you can buy bigger ships to make more millions a-and if i have more millions than you i win b-but now i have all these millions a-and only trade a-and the game is b-boring where is the c-content Frontier?

I like the Viper, i have flown Cobra and i can max it out but i do not like it, and I agree that it is better. Well the thing is that they are fixing it, but it is after release and lost's of thing do not work or are broken. Game feels incomplete and unbalanced. This is the time for tweaking not fixing. They could just move the release not release bugged game.

Why is everyone in a rush to make millions? See the galaxy and chill out.

To "see the galaxy" is precisely why I am grinding trade runs. I just want to build up enough credits to buy a ship with great range and equip it with all the necessities I would need to traverse uncivilized space.

Totally agree. Race to "first" and telling your forum pals is a boring game.

But you don't understand, this is Frontier's fault!
They should have put in actual content that I can skip while only trading and not release a barebones game that has no content for me to ignore with just trading all day!

I mean, seriously, I paid MONEY for this and I can't even properly do one single thing in the game for hours on end without knowing that there are so many other things I could do but don't want to?

If you need proof as to why not rushing is the best way to play this game, just read the rage posts of people who have lost millions to one mistake they made because they rushed and didn't realise that certain actions have fatal consequences.... Take it slow, learn and enjoy

This is very true, and also one of the most brilliant things I have discovered about ED so far: there is no wrong or right way to play this game. You find the style that suits you and go with it. Then you find out a small thing on one base, lose almost all your money smugling slaves and getting caught. Work up some more money to buy Heat Vents, and do it again for profit. so tense and so very fun.
;)

So i've been scouring the internet trying to find the fastest way to make credits. And as I try to do these things in game, i think to myself this is really not fun. Why am I making a game be more like a chore? And as i think further on it, whats the point? Why reach endgame in a month or two? just so i can one-shot a sidewinder out of the sky? I've done this many times in games - get to endgame ASAP and get bored because let's face it, developers are slow to release new content.

I guess i just wanted to offer an alternative point of view, if you are doing what i was. There's literally a whole galaxy out there to explore. As i abandoned my original plan of trying to make money fast and instead tried to actually play the game, I found that i very much enjoyed seeing the real impact i was having in the star systems i frequented. I liked that i could incite a civil war or cause a faction to expand into another system by systematically choosing missions that favored these outcomes. It's these neat little details that make elite so enjoyable.

So avoid the grind. Do whats fun for you!

It's psychology 101...
1) Humans associate video games with the concept of progression. It's inherent, and unavoidable.
2) Usually progression is associated with monetary resources.
3) Players naturally move towards more efficient ways of progressing.

Hehe, yeah psychology 101.

You could expand that idea to everything.

Doing something to not achieve anything would be senseless.

I think the OP was succinct enough.

Well put, OP.

I just spent the day basically travelling long distances, first to visit the Howard and Calarum systems (which I named and which feature in my short story) and then to visit the Ulla system (which has the same name as my wife). Long voyages and the only profit was the exploration payments as I turned in my scanning results. Still, I don't regret a single moment. :)

Yes, grinding lots of money fast will make you tired of the game very quick.
Only "grinding" I did was to be able to fly my Cobra again after the wipe and to have some money as a backup -now I`am on my way to Pleiades Nebula enjoying the universe!
