What's the strangest thing you've seen in Elite?

I've seen a lot of oddities over the years. Been so far out in the fringe to get a selfie with an Earth-Like without a single star in the "sky box". Mitterand Hollow is worth a visit if you haven't been there. The strangest sight I've experienced so far is probably The World of Death:

My ship in an asteroid that wasnt there on my screen but was on my friends screen, my butt can be seen peering out the roid in a sidey. This was back in Gamma.

So after another hour of searching for a UP I decide, to hell with it! I'll go get a UA from the alien crash site and at least that will get me inside the alien base so I can take a look around in VR. This goes pretty much according to plan! I head over in Solo, get inside the base and drop in the UA. Cool but no Prometheusesque galaxy map, hmm, I wonder if anyone else has a UP. So I pick up the UA again, head on out to a safe distance, switch to Open and start driving back. As I approach I can see a hollow square inside the base, one Cmdr Cold_Za who just happens to be on my friends list (Fuel Rat?). Strange thing is he doesn't seem to be moving (or communicating). The UA I'm carrying gets me back inside and as I turn the corner I see Cold_Za's SRV, motionless, right in the heart of the alien device, surrounded by UA's, UP's and UL's. It's quite the strangest little tableau I've ever encountered in Elite. I'm somewhat reminded of this ...

Anyway, I "borrow" his unknown items and use them to activate the device a couple of times. It's absolutely marvellous in VR and all the stranger for having Cold Za's SRV sat ominously silent and still in the middle of it the whole time.

Truly the "heart of darkness"!
