What's with interdiction?

I just got interdicted by the AI. Despite keeping the escape trajectory slap bang on target most of the time to my surprise the blue indicator just went down and down, and the red up and up, until I got pulled out of FSD

Have they changed it so that you have to be pretty much perfect and keep the escape trajectory absolutely dead centre all the time?

Or is it a case of equipping the NPC ships with Engineer mods or something?

The NPC wasn;t even a very high level. I dread to think what escaping a Deadly or Elite would be like. Esescially in a wallowing whale like a Lakon

I've been told there are factors involved for a successful evasion, though I've not worked them out yet, seems more like a 50/50 chance, because my Asp Explorer does more travelling than my other ships, it sees more interdiction's, but it does not matter whether I'm centered on the escape vector or not, sometimes it evades, sometimes it fails.

I almost always win the interdiction, but have found that I need to have the center pip of the sight lit up for a bit before my blue arc increases. Once it does, I can just stay on the general target. Is your center pip lit or are you just on the general target?

I had the same thing happen just now only that I was interdicting and failed despite keeping the trajectory dead center, at the end atleast, but even after I managed to get it dead center did the blue bar still go down just as fast as it was while I barely managed to get the most outer circle over it.
Python vs Orca though I only had the crappiest interdictor possible, 1E, because there was no other for sale at the place I got it :x

Interdictions are weird and feel like they're always favoring the AI, not to mention that we spin like crazy upon failing either and they don't.
