What's with the creepy background noise at outposts?

If you sit at the pad at an outpost there's a looping sound that plays in the background.

Can't accurately describe it, but I'd go with "haunted air raid siren."

Gets me to finish my business and launch my ship rather quickly, especially at pirate stations. Anyone know what the sound is supposed to be?

A warning, from those that went before, and didn't heed it themselves.

Ambience and atmospheres.... I really think FD nailed the vibe with these. I must check out Burbank again. I will probably be at Robigo in the next few days.....

Maybe in a few seasons when we get unglued from our seats, a few of us will dare to disembark on a walkabout, and see what evil awaits deep in the bowels, of Burbank Port.

That's it! Gives me the chills every time.

They should just go all out and give it an ATC VO that plays very rarely and its just entirely someone screeching into a microphone or like a regular ATC speech slowed down and reversed. I mean go hard or go home, right?

Hopefully by then we'll be able to role play as a space film crew and we can shoot an episode of interstellar ghost hunters.

Yeah, the haunted outposts have been around forever.

They are the souls of dev's who tried to suggest fixing the base game. :(

OH! THAT noise....

It's the biowaste processors cycling.

Should check out the sounds of derelict ships in combat aftermath unidentified signal sources, the metal cooling sounds and occasional metal on metal clang remind me of Dead Space.

I love the sounds. I think they are very atmospheric.
I always imagine there are some guys hard at work with some powertools.

I should really play dead space. And by that I mean, I should really get one of my friends to play dead space while I watch. I'm far too much of a chicken to actually play a scary game, but I love being scared while watching someone else play. It's like a horror movie where you can yell at the screen and the characters can hear you.

I hope it doesn't sound like I'm complaining! I adore the ambiance in all its survival horror glory! I was just wondering if we had an accepted explanation.

I always thought of it as a siren distorted by a dying power supply but sounding off anyway. Like the current occupants didn't know how or didn't care to turn the siren off and now it's batteries are dying. Maybe my perception is colored by the time I had a car alarm go off directly outside my apartment for 15 hours straight.

Some is looped others are dynamic. It's superb IMO. Can sit and imagine what is causing the sounds as we wait for ever for the commodities/mission screen to open.

At least it's not like some games where none of the ambient sounds make sense. No Man's Sky is good at that.
