What's with the T7 hate?

Bought one on impulse for this CG.

Ok, it was a dog when I had to leave the station with it all E-rated but now it has a reasonable range and some better fittings, it's quite a nice ride.

I can see me taking this to the Engineers for a bit of extra love.

It's a cargo ship that is out-cargoed by a smaller multirole ship.

Other than price, it is outclassed by the Python or Clipper in every way. It is a ship without a niche.

Ahhhh....T7... Great days. I purchased one with great enthusiasm many years ago.
When money was hard to come by.

I also have a Python. One benefit of the T7 is that I'm not going to pretend it's a combat ship.

Could do with a Medium hardpoint to make it a better miner.

I really, REALLY like the T7. She flies really nicely, has a great industrial look, and a pretty decent internals.

I hardly ever fly her though, because it's hard for me to do much point-to-point trading without getting bored really fast. I really wish I could have a T7 with a beefed up hull, powerplant, distributor, and hardpoints. A T7 Keelback, basically. That would be amazing! :D

The delicate tradeship thing just isn't my style, but I would pay a good bit of money for a rough-and-tumble T7 derivative.

Bigger then the Python. Carries less than the Python.

Can't land at outposts.

Weak power plant.

Weak shields.

Weak offensive capabilities (4 small hardpoints? Good enough for 1.2 maybe but for 2.1/2.2?)

Not very fast.

And on top of all that, she's outclassed in every way by the Clipper for a few million credits more and an Imperial rank lock which isn't that hard to get.

Apart from all that she's great.

It brings this to mind:

Maybe one day we'll get the ship with the boobies as well.

Take the weapons off the Python and outfit for speed and 248T of cargo and it'll be real clear what a turkey the T-7 is.

Back in the day if you didn't have enough Imperial rank for a Clipper, the T-7 was the shortest route between the T-6 or Asp to the Python.

Probably still the only excuse to own one unless it just amuses you to drive one.

I occasionally give some thought to doing just that from time to time if I have nothing else on my to do list.

Currently headed to Jaques on an exploration run - maybe if I get back before the next beta I'll revisit some of the ships I haven't used in, like, forever.

Yup, other ships do its role better, but for some reason they don't fly as well.

I don't do Trader grind, so I doubt I'll be in the T7 beyond this CG, but I might upgrade her with the next one in mind.

I miss the T7 days, first bit of proper trucking I had in E:D.

Maybe FD could find it in their hearts to shave a bit off the top so it can fit on a medium pad....

That said looking at the ship dimesntions it should be bigger than the python, so maybe it needs a class 6 to class 7 upgrade :D

Put G5 dirty drives on a Python and you'll be amazed at the way it flies. I put A5 thrusters on my trader Python modded the grade 5 and it works terrifically.

Can't say I really miss them, but yeah, I get the urge to fly down memory lane once in a while.

It usually passes before I can do anything about it. Maybe if there's some downtime before the next beta.

T9 and t7.... both worthless. Space whales that are outclassed by multirole ships that cost almost the same.

Maybe if their prices were reduced substantially they'd have a purpose

I don't know if the front hardpoints would work for mines, but this kinda makes me happy:

https://coriolis.io/outfit/type_7_t...j2j000404044i05040403032727.Iw18aQ==.Aw18aQ==

If no mines in front, you could just leave the front hardpoints empty and up the shields to a 6B. Mmmmm. :D

I don't see why the T7 needs to have such a low shield coefficient. That, combined with the little powerplant, distro, and C1 hardpoints are what hurts it so much. You up the coefficient so that a 6A shield gives it ~200MJ, up the powerplant to a C5, the distro to a C4, and all the hardpoints to C2's.... I would fly the crap outta that thing.

Price isn't nearly the balancing factor it was back in the old days.

The T7 could at least do with a resize to a medium pad, and/or a bigger FSD to give it Type 6 like range (or maybe even better). Not quite Anaconda good, but maybe AspX good (with an empty cargo hold of course).

The T7 is simply a flying coffin. It's powerplant can't power sufficient shields and weapons, so it runs with paper shields and hardly anything to fight with. The hull isn't exactly stable, and it's not fast enough to run. IMO when you fly a T7, you either feel lucky or have a deathwish.

In the olden days, T7 was excellent due to it's fuel economy (yep, fuel was expensive these days).

Full tank in T9 costed around 700.000 iirc. When you had a good trade run (normal trade, there were no shortcuts in the first couple of months), you had to deduct that from the income.

Full tank in T7 was 50k. So you could compensate lousy cargo space with cheaper fuel. It had it's niche.
