Ships Whats your guys ship of choice for general planetary ops?

Whats your guys ship of choice for general planetary ops? Lets say a ship specifically made for going to settlements to do missions/attack them, for impact sites and other general odyssey gameplay.
Personally for planetary ops I like having 2 dumbfire missile racks, SRV hangar, detailed surface scanner, docking PC(for when I wanna go to the bathroom IRL, get some water, or just plain old feeling lazy) and optionally a guardian frame shift drive booster since less jumps to get to places is nice.
Im using phantom atm, good jump range, alot of optionals for everything I could ever want, not too large. But I was thinking about using a small ship since I like that they are easyer to find even ground to land on and I like how many of them look and fly in general ^_^.

Annyways Im curious what do you CMDRs prefer?

I ignore the pads. Landing on them is a bad idea if you ask me. Too close to the base.

Better to land 200 yards out, deploy the SRV, and trundle it closer. It acts as a mobile backpack, get away vehicle, tank, and recharge station. You can manage inventory from it, and swap suits. Just don't try to drive through tight areas. The SRV gets stuck easily. Stay on open ground or wide roads.

Plus, if you're out on foot when some new scavs drop in, or whatever, they won't attack your ship if its outside the base like that.

While you can use dumbfires, the base will go hostile. This doesn't matter if its powered down, but...if you power it back up you better turn off the turrets and alarms too :)

Dumbfires are more useful out at the crash sites that are guarded. Nothing to go hostile there, and it saves time.

Oh, and to answer OP, I'm using a Krait MKII at the moment. Works excellent, and has enough firepower to also take out ship-to-ship pirates as needed.

Erm, Imperial Courier... Impersonnel delivery. (Came up with name after considering "Anti-personnel delivery", but it seemed a bit impolite. Oh and its an Imp-erial ship)

I had a pair of failed builds (they didn't work quiet as well as they looked on paper) lying and around and repurposed them both into this. And after a "Restore the power generator, where did all those scavengers appear from, still need to put out the fires" I can report it's lateral evasion, shield tank and hull tank, are enough to take out the entire scavenger swarm while under fire from the base's defences.
What is particularly nice is the central fixed beam works well on small numbers of on foot targets, and if there are a swarm then it works well to line up your targets, then drop in a salvo or two of missiles. Since you are so close to the targets, then the targeting reticules are well off.

Also using an Imperial Courier mostly. I like this ship for Odyssey jobs. Small, lands everywhere, fast and good shields. When playing with my wife, the good old Cobra MK III does the job, though I dont like the Cobra for SRV operations at it is quite low and a bit narrow underneath. The Cobra MK IV sits a bit higher on ground, so that actually might be another options. Actually not sure what kind of landing pads settlements have. S or M? Havn't tried with anything bigger yet.

Mine is something like this
Imperial Courier
40 LY Jump range
534 cruise and 725 boost speed
900 MJ shields
SRV, supercruise assist, scoop, detailed surface scanner + 2 open slots to use as needed
Heatsink
Dumbfire missiles to fire on dumb ground troops + 1 laser

I like V4 and I use it, but for planetary ops the best ship is one that provides the best view of the ground, so most open cockpit, like DBX/DBS for example.

Federal Gunship.

Missiles in the bottom two hardpoints, my standard space combat loadout for the rest. It's got enough beef to argue with base defences, and it doesn't need much agility to hang in the sky pointing menacingly downwards.

Found that small ships were really handy to adjust rockets and land near the site (or even on those pads), so thought I'd go back to the Cobra for a bit. You really don't need much equipment so SRV, full nav assists, big scoop, and pimped thrusters for those emergency escapes. Bonus points for the two centered hardpoints that make aiming rockets to ground a breeze. Cargo racks in those slots I had no idea what to do with, but they sit empty all the time basically. About 31LY jump range with a G3 or G4 drive. Plus it's dirt cheap to replace should anything happen to it, and it reminds me of my rare goods trading days and trip to the core pre-engineering.

Imperial Courier .. strong shield, very fast, dumbfiresx2, packhoundx1, plus SRV and all lasy stuff like SCA and DC plus ADS to search planets for crash sites etc. But there may work well practically every small ship.

Cobra Mk.IV or Keelback.
I don't do shooty stuff, so it doesn't really matter what ship I would fly - Sidey would serve me just as well - but these two are the best handling ships in high gravity so I use them. they're comfy. And look cool.
