What's your "hull degradation rate" ?

I mean the average rate at which you accumulate hull damage...
For instance mine seems to be averaging damage at about 1% per 1750 LY travel.
This is probably quite high, I suspect. [Curse those gravitational anomalies ;) ]
And as you can't repair hull out in the void - it could potentially impact on any extreme long range expeditions I might want to undertake... - (assuming a significant safety margin as well - say 50%)
Quite curious as to what rate other commanders "hull degradation rate" is...

Oh and any suggestions on how to reduce this, could be useful - apart from fly more carefully, obviously :)
The zero-speed before jump thing helps, but even so...

I've traveled 7.5k systems and I am down to 86%

So with all calculations involved, about 1% per 13,375ly...

7500/14 = 535. 535/40(average number of systems per 1kly for me) = 13.375

I'm at 94% after 25000ly and 2500 systems

Ran into a neutron star and got a canopy comprised message with some cracks visible

At least 700+ jumps from Sol

What do you reckon my chance are to get back?

Better than mine ! ;) Actually TBH I'm at 90% but don't have any canopy cracks.
I've also slammed into a neutron star - forgot to kill speed...
Also thought I should do a quick orbit of a gas giant - 'cos the system map showed rings, but I couldn't see any. Anyway I found them the hard way.

13K LY is impressive. I need flying lessons :)...

94% after 20kly.
I lost my first 2% at 8-10kly. "Ok, the next world is 8500 sl... Align, supercruise, go to making biowaste... *BUMP*. I managed to hit a small ice moon...
The other 4% was during the same day...night...whatever.
Forgot to stop after jump and alt+tab for selecting music... -2%.
Another system, one hour after. Fuelscoop, Select next target, speed up... Trajectory cross the body exclusion zone of the sun... -2%. It was the signal for going to sleep.

From Guan Zana heading for Sagittarius A* distance 25787.99LS (x2) returned with 27% hull integrity and 20%+ damage to many modules due to heat damage over the trip.

From the above posts, I appear to be doing quite well then (touch wood). My hull dropped to 99% just yesterday, as I passed 12 KLy's from Sol. 690 systems. But I'm a careful driver.

First trip I took it down to 78% in about 15kylies. Second trip I dropped it to 2% finding out how close I could get to my first neutron star at speed but other than that no damage so far. I think I found all the other dangerous things first time out and I don't try pushing the limits while scooping.

Current trip I'm at about 60k ly travelled, and the hull is at 98% after two minor oopsies near neutrons. Had one brown trouser jump into a close binary, but only got module damage from that. 11k from home now.

I'm only about 2200ly out right now (damn my impatience with starting out using a C5 FSD on my DBX, instead of waiting to get the 5 mil for an A5...), but I'm down to 98% after a lone mistake (chatting with a friend on comms, scooping, and not paying attention...at least I was hardly moving, since I don't like to hot dog near stars, and the DBX dosn't really overheat that much when sitting in the corona at low speeds).

lost 6% in 27,000 LY so that's 1% per 4,500 LY. Half of that in the first 5,000 though so 1% per 7,000 LY recently.

The last 8,000 has included 800 neutron stars with much shorter jumps and obviously a more hazardous environment. I think I only got caught twice by them (both times distracted by something - a daughter and the corona of the previous star).

PS Reached Sag A about 10 minutes ago - does that qualify for a Kerrash SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! ?

I'm down to 94% after 48,000 LY, all due to totally avoidable stupidity and lack of attention. Except for the one time I was flying towards a 300+ LS away planet, wanted to take a look at the system map and the game got stuck in the loading screen so long I crashed into it. :D

Im down to 93% on my current trip which is 48k LY

Apart from smacking into black hole immediately after jumping into a system, at 0% throttle, the rest of the damage is down to lapses in concentration due to the length of my gameplay....does happen!!

I would recommend you target 1% per 5 Kylie. At that point it is all in your hands, you are not relying on luck. If all you can manage is 1% per Kylie, you need to have a good long look at your flying style. Either your procedure is wrong, you are not paying sufficient attention, or exploration is not for you

I lost 5% hull from 5 incidents in about 7000 systems / 200K LY on my last big trip all due to being distracted from the game.

And I don't zero the throttle when jumping; I only do it when I notice that I've arrived at a neutron star or white dwarf.
