When a player buys system information, the player who discovered it gets some or all of that money

"Without doing anything?" You mean...without exploring the bubble before anyone else? I don't see the problem with rewarding players based on how useful their efforts are to other players...

What usefulness? what makes these players more useful compared to all the other players who also charted and sold the same exploration data?

What about all new players who at the current state of the Galaxy can never get this reward, as all the core systems are already being mapped and tagged by other players. Sure they can go out a few hundred LY of the beaten path and tag their own systems, but noone would ever buy this information it is too far away from any station...

I fail to see why we should implement anything like this. As this only would be beneficial to the early adopters who could map the bubble first, now it is all mapped.... so no new discoveries in the bubble...

I don't think it would be of any actual *benefit* to anybody. How often have you bought system information? Myself, probably no more than a dozen times.

I haven't made this suggestion with any expectation that it would create a meaningful revenue stream for anybody. Just that say once a week, you'd get a message saying that Universal Cartographics have paid you 6000 credits in royalties. Maybe it would even break it down to commander level, maybe it would form some kind of interesting statistic? I don't know what the best implementation of it would be, but I think it would be nice to add an extra way that players are connected to each other.

Personally, I never buy system data. Most of the systems in/near the bubble that have data available are either so well mapped that the information is public anyways (i.e. Sol, Achenar, Alioth, etc...) or remote enough that I can scan them myself for a big fat cheque. Either way, there is no real reason for me to buy the data, especially with the integrated ADS. Outside of the bubble, most of the systems I come across will not have data available. In the odd occurrence where data IS available, I am outfitted for mapping/exploration and can scan the system for a big fat cheque. Again, there is no real reason for me to buy system data.

I started playing ED about a year and a half ago. I did not get any major first discoveries in the bubble, although I do have a few that are >1kly from Sol. What I do have are a whole bunch of first discoveries that nobody else will likely ever see due to how remote they are. If I got 1000 CR every time a player bought system data for a system that I discovered, I don't think I would even be able to buy a Sidewinder with the proceeds. I might be able to fill a Type 6 with biowatse, but that's about it.

For me, this feature would be absolutely pointless, and I would rather have FDev spend time adding other things to the game instead.

Now that is an argument against that I can get behind.

I'd perhaps subconsciously assumed that this would be trivial to implement, but I know nothing at all about coding so that was probably not a sensible assumption to make.

I will therefore amend my request to, if this is a thing that one coder could do in a couple of days then I'd like to see it, otherwise don't bother. :)
