When are new SRVs coming?

So a new SRV, the Mk II Rhino, which could be used for both surface mining AND for explorers to drill for planet core samples to bring home and sell for lots of credits.

Totally agree, but surface vehicles have to be named after insects, so a large one should be called the GOLIATH.

[edit] Doh! Just realised there is a rhino beetle. But there's room for both.

Short answer: when next paid content is ready. I cannot understand why FD are ashamed to say it?

It's actually more concerning that they haven't said anything about any major paid DLC coming. Nothing other than the "premium content" comment which many have grossly inflated to mean something much more than the actual context.

If FDev was working on something major right now, that could have more buggies, etc., they'd be talking about it right now same as any developer would to generate interest and awareness. Silence more than likely means nothing major is underway. Really can't debate this point as what benefit would they get from keeping silent? It's not something that is competitive sensitive. And it's not a big reveal like announcing a new game.

All I want is for SRVs to just fit in cargo holds like FDev had originally planned, instead of their own dedicated module.

So it has been a year since the launch of Horizons. We have many different ship launched fighters, where are the new SRVs?

I would like two see a couple of them. One big and heavy with a large cargo capacity. These would be useful for surface POI's and gathering the containers, as well as Thargoid sites!

Would also like to see maybe a faster one with MUCH improved handling. Something that would work well for some bucky ball racing! And also may be a preferable pick for running around settlements getting to those data points before the timer runs out.

Maybe one that is not as fast but has a much larger boost, so you can fly it farther. Or get more altitude in high G worlds.

Or just put modules in them and lets us customize (engineer) boost rate, capacitor, speed, cargo racks, etc....
Honestly, I say that our current ones are good, and they do need to be small enough to fit in a sidewinder, after all.

You know. I'd just like to be able to build replacements as per fighter bays. I find it a bit silly that a fighter can be printed, but Frontier simply did not think to duplicate this functionality to the SRV bay. Maybe before they add more buggies, make the mechanics consistent between the two hangers, first?

Better still; let me carry a buggy and a fighter in the same hanger; and let me fab either.

One thing I have always wondered about that, if we are just printing fighters why can we only print one type, surely having another type to print is just a matter of changing the cad drawing and out pops a different one. You could have an endless variety of things popping out of that bay, mining rigs to set down anywhere you want, anti-missile emplacements to protect the ship while you were driving around, several different types of buggy's of course, plus a partridge in a pear tree.

I am not necessarily advocating for that, but the moment they allowed printing of fighters it lets the cat out of the bag, why can we only print fighters! Of course the only real answer is that printing of fighters is something they had to do to allow multi-crew to work at all well and the same doesn't apply to buggy's. We should be able to buy the blueprint for a number of different devices depending on what we were intending to do, and maybe there would be a limit to the number of different blueprints the computer can store. So an explorer may go for a number of different buggies and maybe a drilling rig, a miner a number of drilling rigs to get the best out of available resources, a combat pilot a few different versions of fighters and an armed and armored buggy, that sort of thing.

I'm thinking the reasoning is tied to the fact that using a fighter is telepresence, and an SRV is not. (If you lose power in an SRV, you get an Oxygen Depletion warning, but in a SLF you can turn off the "Life Support" to reduce heat and save on the power with no ill effects).

Something that can be printed may not necessarily be safe for manned operation. In an unmanned SLF this is not a drawback (since it doesn't even need to be airtight), whereas a manned SRV would need to be certified for (relatively) safe operation by an occupant.
