I always thought CGs should be created fully automatic as a result of very specific BGS circumstances.
Exactly - a system in outbreak could auto-generate a CG to deliver meds rather than relying on players to filter on the galaxy map. A bit of joined up thinking would have created a better experience for players, especially when starting out.

My favourite CGs were ones to bring some new asset into the game.
The DBX.
Obsidian Orbital.

I also like the ones that give some universal benefit.
Like the large Toxic Cargo racks.

Except when they took UA bombing out of the game they killed any point to that. Like UA bombing was one of the few “weaponise BGS” tactics.

I fully agree. I didn't play a lot of CG but I enjoyed a lot the ones to build the Core Station because there was a clear consequence and the reward was for everyone, not only for a minor faction that only few care...
For example end of last year we had the CG for the Duradrive and Herculean Machines. In the end these are just two new commodities in the market, very disappointing...
It could have been done properly by pretending that the new FSS interface is based on the duradrive/herculean machine since the plot happened at the same time Beyond 3.3 was released.
Also the Gnosis jump could have been a very successful event if organised with few of CG's (rescue, repair and combat).

This kind of things give more depth to the game... It's an easy win win situation... I can't believe how FDEV missed so many easy opportunities.

Means delivering a lot of thargoids sensors to the station black market. In the bgs this triggers the station to go offline. To bring it back online you need to deliver a lot of meta alloys

I think the net effect of UA bombing (which was under player control) has been replaced with Thargoid Incursions, which are under FDev control.

Exactly - These CGs had a direct ingame effect. You want a new ship? Do the CG!

And as it has been said, 90% of the CGs seems to be generic. Add a different text and change the commodities and you have your CG.

Short version of a comment I've made often elsewhere.

Player/squadron funded cgs really need to be a thing. Nothing too complex... Just allow players to prop up activities in a system with a pool of cash... expires after a month. For selected activities (trade of specified commodities, bounties etc) their value gets topped up by a % (up to 100% of value extra, to avoid abuse). that way cashed up players can entice other players to fix things such as damaged stations or negative states.
