When did you first encounter Elite?

Oolite. Same but better.
First encountered Elite, through a conversation with an uncle... sometime later I got Elite for the sixty-four and being fairly young at the time and too used to other genres got completely stuck... I enjoy crashing into Lave Station and get killed by Vipers (alot)
I saw a preview of FE2 in Amiga Format/Amiga Power and pre-ordered the game from Future Zone (Electronic Boutique>Game), I loved it but was totally useless at it, gave up for a couple of weeks, read the Gazette, Stories from the Frontier and Manual a few times and decide to have 'another go', glad I did... It was the only game I played for 3 years...
...I would go out for the evening with friends but I made sure I didn't drink too much so I was able to put in some time when I got home.
As FFE was never released for the Amiga, It wasn't till much later that I had a PC to play it on.
