When do you think Iron Man Mode will come for E.D

The mode where you have one life and have to restart if you die. I guess we will have escape capsules so we have a chance of survival. Maybe even being captured and can ransome with our lifes if we have much credits.
What do you think about this. Would you have a go at it?

No one is stopping you enforce Iron Man mode on yourself, in fact quite a few players do that already. It doesn't need to be a mode or a separate game, all you have to do is have the willpower to reset your save after a death.

No need for the game to provide this, you can do in now. I don't think FDev will add this at all, there are players who are already concerned that the reset save option doesn't require a password.

Why go Sissy-Iron-Man mode?

Go full-on Iron-Man mode. You know, where you buy a new licence after death. That way your death costs time AND money.

Bet you’ll be EXTRA careful if you opt for Big-Boy Iron-Man mode :D

I guess, although. Creating a mode where you are all put into open and with huge risks seems to be the ultimate E.D Alliances will become important. The same with clans. Survivability will be on every ones mind.
Escape capsules are important. It will be truly a dangerous universe. Names will be created and commanders will rise and fall. Who can stay alive the longest?
Survival games are popular so why not survival among the the stars and the void. I think this will draw in many retired commanders to the game. Like flies on a .... :D
Finally Elite can truly call itself Dangerous. Well, its another dream I guess :p

I don't think Iron Man really fits E:D as it is at the moment. Mostly it seems like it just encourages you to do boring safe things in big ships with big shields and avoid anything exciting.

Maybe if they shifted the rewards drastically to favour high risk activities.

"No Insurance mode" would be better perhaps - it'd give people a reason not to risk using the big ships, anyway. Or at least it would without credit exploints.

I would love an iron man mode, but I don't think it's high on Frontier's priorities.

Would be true, if I was only competing with myself, but I'm not.

I do think it's a little too easy to accidentally wipe one's save, but that doesn't say anything about my desire or willingness to play an iron man mode.

Small ships are considerably safer than most big ships. Speed easily trumps shielding.

I play the game as a survivalist as it is anyway. I have 5 ship losses total and none since 3301. I do have a Python (I originally got it for the Repair Jaques Station CG), but much prefer using small ships in the game for their handling. My main ship, The Ronin, is a combat capable Vulture explorer.

Earlier on having an "ironman" mode was something I very much wanted as well, but this late in development and with the modes the game already has and its P2P multiplayer, I don't think it's likely at all that we'll see it implemented. I wouldn't likely clear my Commander save at this point either. I suppose an additional ironman mode might be an option if they also start selling additional Commander saves per account, but again, it doesn't seem very likely.

I would certainly like being able to pay off and remove my insurance claims if given the option though. Ship losses are too inconsequential in this game in my opinion.

I have respect for those who play iron man mode, but I've invested far too much time in my commander to throw him away. Personally, the only way I'd play iron man would be on a second account.

No reason at all why this would not work.

The only main issue is that too many players would whinge that it’s too hard.

It would, however make becoming ELITE mean something again!

I don't really see much point to a dedicated Ironman mode, if you want to play that way you already to a large extent can. PvP is the only real exception I can think of.

While I am sure that obligatory iron man would have quite a big impact on the game, especially with proper crime and punishment system, I wouldn't want to see it happen. You can have some fun now as you're omly risking a rebuy. Without rebuy we'd all be nervous wrecks flying like space snails. Ok, I would be. :)

Never. It's a niche feature that very few (dozens?) people want, it would be a massive waste of Dev time and money, especially since you can just erase your save when you die.

I used to do it till the whole "escape capsule" thing was throughly explained to me.
If someone wishes to add a little spice a Cmdr here once posted a nicely done chart (using dice IIRC) to figure the chance of your capsule being retrieved.

With that said I often wonder how this community, the whole Open/Solo, greifing, ganking, Engineering thing would be looked at if "dead truly meant dead." Be a lot different I reckon.
