When I jump, my DK2 will 15% of the time go Black.

Team,

Man is this exhausting to reach continuous playability with my awesome OR. So, another relatively new even I have had for the last 2 weeks and is NOT nvidia patch related is that when I make a jump....my dk2 will sometimes just go black and I can hear the game but it isn't visible anymore. A restart will bring me to the next system I was jumping too.

So weird. I have tried clicking the Elite Black eagle in the task bar to "re engage" the game on my dk2 from my main monitor but it doesn't bring the image back. I can hear the game in the back ground and I'm forced to control alt delete.

I've had the same setup and rig for 4 months now and this is somewhat new over the last couple of weeks.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Open the little flap at the top/middle (where the two cables go in) of your DK2 and make sure they (the HDMI and USB cable) are firmly in place.

Very timely post OP.
.
I too have been having a very similar problem to this A LOT ever since I got my Anaconda (highly doubt that's related) but after the second time it happened in a station (the screen flickers a few times and then eventually comes back, but with no control over my throttle, which means my ship is banging around accumulating massive damage), I frantically mashed the physical off button on my computer case before my ship destroyed itself all by itself.
.
I have a GTX 980 with 8GB RAM and an overclocked Core i5 2500k (4.3Ghz).
.
I have had the problem for a long time (i.e. a few NVidia drivers and many ED patches), but only recently has it been getting much, much worse. So bad has it become that I dread opening up my speed in stations over 50kps, as that seems to be the amount of time I need to frantically mash my computer's off button (alt+F4 also does not seem to work in these circumstances).
.
It is far from simply frustrating at this point.

Thanks for sharing man. We are in the same boat.

So I am praying that there is a slight chance I solved this? I deleted Elite dangerous display switcher... That program that changed the font color and so far, after an hour, it seems to be working OK. Ha! I'm sure tomorrow I'll have it back but, for now, maybe my computer had an issue with it... Who knows?

Such an interesting journey we are on for this immersion. Shows how great it is when it works.

Is most definitely sounds like we are (by the way, I would be in your debt if you could tell me how to make spaces between your text without needing a period btw!! Seems like the best-kept secret in these forums).
.
I don't think I have the display switcher installed. I did try fiddling with my HUD colors, but I adjusted them manually- no program used (I think not at least ...).
.
The more I think about it, the more I think it's EITHER a hardware issue OR an issue with how the OR is implemented within ED as opposed to something related to a software setting in ED if that makes any sense at all. Reason being is that when I play with my standard screen (as I do frequently; during especially tedious trade grinds, I find watching Netflix passes the time very pleasantly tbh!), this absolutely never happens. Might it have to do with the way the OR handles the HUD color? Completely plausible. But in my case at least, it isn't.
.
It's almost as though the OR turns itself off and on again for just a fraction of a second- makes me think that cherbert might have been onto something with his suggestion to completely secure the cables. I unplugged and plugged everything back into my rig again just to be sure ... and I thought I may have felt a bit of play where the HMD cable met the video card. Fingers crossed that that was it.
.
I will report back in a couple of days to let you know whether it indeed helped or not.
.
I'm half wondering whether it might be related to the in-game supersampling implemented in 1.2. Seems to me to have bee nmore prevalent recently than before. Also seems to be affecting my Anaconda, which has a lot of cockpit rendering, more than my T9, which had very little cockpit rendering. Trying to remember if my Python (also with a lot of cockpit rendering) had that problem too. Too bad I sold it, or I would troubleshoot it!

Check this post out I just found a propos of our problem: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=137027
.
Two things to consider:
.
1) Overclocking. I am using MSI Afterburner with a (VERY modest +100 Core; +38 Memory) overclock.
.
2) Supersampling. I too am running at 1.5x in-game, with no Nvidia Supersampling. Wondering whether this is having any effect on things ...
.
I am furthermore going to discontinue MSI Afterburner. I'll keep Supersampling on until and if the problem recurrs.
.
Curious redmantab- are you overclocking your video card at all? What are you running?

when I make a jump....my dk2 will sometimes just go black and I can hear the game but it isn't visible anymore. !

Visual problems are normal when going to lightspeed, or blacking out - I suggest this:
The "L-1" maneuver. This is straining, almost like straining on the toilet-frankly. Also taking very short breaths-so as not to fully deplete one's lungs. This keeps the blood from pooling in the lower extremities-which leads to blackout. To do this effectively requires some practice and anticipation.

:):)

I had the same problem, even in normal space without jumping. I solved this by returning my new GTX 980 to the store and with my old GTX 660 the problems are gone. Maybe i buy a new card in a few month but then it's a card without factory overclocking, THATS for sure!

You either have a bad card, a bad rift (those 2 most likely) or your cables are faulty or badly connected.

It really is one of those 4 things, and I recommend resolving them asap before you get pavlovian fear of Elite. Sounds like a nasty situation to be in, I sympathise

I definitely think it's hardware-related at this point. For what it's worth, just turned off overclocking and played for about 15 minutes before the wife chased me to breakfast:rolleyes:
.
No problems whatsoever. I really have a sneaking suspicion it's due to overclocking. I think there's something about overclocking and OR resolutions that just don't work well together. As I said earlier, I'll report back from time to time as I play longer and longer.

Well, it happened again. Only once this time (after about an hour of gameplay), but it happened. Luckily not while I was leaving the station this time, but rather when I was outfitting. Again- the Anaconda.
.
Happened after I went out and put down $680 (god help me) on ANOTHER GTX 980. My wallet needed that like a hole in my head, and I had to engage in some creative subterfuge to camo it from the wife, but ... wow- no judder whatsoever now in station or in systems with lots of orbital lines or ... well, anywhere. But that's another story.
.
The fact was, the problem recurred. So, my plan now is to use my second 980 alone to isolate if it's related to my video card. Once I've done that, then again, I'll report back here, for posterity at least.

Hey Magnusvermagnussen,
sounds like a plan (but an expensive). If your new 980 is factory overclocked, try underclock it to the reference design. That helped a few people. I've given up for the moment, got rid of my 980 and play in 2D again :(
Let's cross fingers for the next ED patch.

Hello again everyone. Ok, here's the thing. I've used the exact same card factory superclocked 980 gtx for the last 4 months. No problems with this issue until the last 3 weeks. Based on what Magnus is saying, I don't think it is a card issue. Also, I play countles sother games and alienisolation in the rift with ZERO issues.

I think it is software related and can't figure out what it would be. Sometimes my screen won't go "black" and drop for 2 hours, other times it will happen every 5 min.

Ya know, I love the rift but this is getting so exhausting that sometimes I just load up the game on my triple monitor setup ready to ;play that way...until, i realize what CRAP that is compared to VR haha. Around and around in circles we go my friends : )
