When is Resizable BAR not Resizable BAR

I'm not proposing to debate the benefits or not of resizable BAR here, just whether its active or not.

As an aside after fixing the problem I'm getting a 4 to 5 fps increase in VR.

I knew my system was compatible with Resizable BAR so after enabling it in my BIOS I assumed it would be active, but it wasn't. There were no warnings or error messages saying it wasn't active either. It was only random curiosity looking through my systems settings that led me to find out.

It turns out my Nvidia RTX 3090 Founders Edition GPU although capable of hosting resizable BAR had a firmware (VBIOS) that was not up to date enough, confirmed by checking Nvidia control panels system information link, bottom left-hand corner.

Fortunately, Nvidia provides a handy VBIOS update tool that checks your RTX 30's firmware for compatibility and updates where necessary. Search Google "NVIDIA Resizable BAR Firmware Update Tool"

Needless to say, not all systems are compatible with resizable BAR, I knew mine was. Plus, the process of flashing any BIOS or VBIOS can go very wrong so extreme caution is needed.

This would be useful to me, if only there were software tools to give ReBAR support to motherboards and CPUs that don't support it...
