When is volcanism coming to Horizons?

I'd guess this is what's in 2.4. I'd be surprised if it came as part of some other update.

Either that or they've decided that they won't be getting volcanism in with season 2 after all. That'd be really disappointing but not hugely surprising.

We'll get to know when they announce it. Personally I don't get all that excited about those big spherical things. What I am looking the most forward to is the ability to walk around in our ships and elsewhere. Though probably we won't see that until next season at the earliest.

Not necessarily, there are many reasons why active volcanism may not form an atmosphere, the planet may be to small to have sufficient gravity to hold onto the material, The planet may be too close to it's star and as such may be bombarded by stellar winds of sufficent magnitude to rip away the atmosphere, the planet could not be sufficently active to create anything more than a trace atmosphere, you have to remember that most planets that we consider "airless" have trace atmospheres.

Fair enough... good answers all.

Can you have vulcanism on non-atmospheric planets? Wouldn't an active volcanic planet expell enough gasses to form an atmosphere of some sort?

Was thinking the same thing... If volcanism forms atomosphere, we shouldn't be getting volcanic planets in season 2. :(

Well we were promised volcanic planets in season two as one of the things in the season pass, so its one of the things we've already bought - we'd better get them.

My guess would be the end of the season.
It would make sens to start with planet content and to end with the last bit of content.
And my guess is also that the tech used for that sort of effect will be used in what ever is in season 3.

I can't help but to wonder what we could actually do on a volcanic planet. Seismic research perhaps?

I hope so.
But I would not be surprised if its just resorces that pop out of the volcanic parts that you then scoop up with your SRV.
However I am sure we will get more depth over time as FD seem to first put out the very basic elements and then over time the depth

It's a matter of definition but I would say it's here already:

Edit: Searched the canyons but could not find any vents, either its a seasonal thing or, more likely, the animation isn't ready yet.
Cheers
