Engineers When ranking up engineers?

So its been a productive weekend so far. I've got access to Martuuk, Ryder, Blaster, Dweller, and Farseer sorted out yesterday and upgraded til I ran out of mats for their stuff. Going to work on getting Palin invite and Tani unlocked today

My question is for ranking them up they each accept like exploration data, bounties, commodities. How effective is that compared to the time spent to gather materials to rank to top? I could load and drop a conda full of landmines for Ryder for example, a couple of times probably in the time it would take to find materials for a few rolls (especially considering I am only ranking her to get Tani, I'm not running any missile builds). At least that's how it seems. Just looking for perspective from the finish line.

Also, searches on this particular topic yield an absolute mess of complaint threads (which this is not) and not much actual comparison or anecdotal experience

I havent used commodities for rep at engineers, sorry
One engineer needs 1million bounties to unlock IIRC...

The most efficient method to raise each tier ( ie grade 1 -5) I read about on the forum somewhere.. long ago.

Each tier requires you to ONLY manufacture 3 items in each tier to unlock the next..
3x tier 1 > 3x tier 2 > 3x tier 3 > 3x tier 4 >

if you use https://inara.cz/galaxy-engineers/ and collect whatever you need for whoever you need to unlock,
using that method kinda reduces the time to get tier 5 in all the engineers,
as opposed to making/rolling 100s of t1 to get to t5 :)

Have fun and welcome to Elite :)

Yeah that was Blaster McGuinn or whatever, 100k in alliance bounties to unlock. If it's only a mil to get him to 5 I could knock that out in 20 minutes but I suspect it is more than that. Good to know the exact formula, I guess I'm just a lot more comfortable with how to explore/get bounties/fill hulls with trades than where in the black I need to go to gather these mats. There is no RNG to getting bounties, or buying commodities so I thought (hoped really) it could still prove efficient if you have the ships and credits to abuse. Also like I mentioned with Ryder, she upgrades all the missiles, so my only option is to buy some to trash or just to g1 hulls til rank 4 to unlock Tani etc... bleh

IMHO you can very much forget about ranking up = "gaining reputation" by selling exploration data and commodities or handing in bounty vouchers. Once you have reached e.g. level 3 with the respective engineer this gives only a few percent of reputation for reaching level 4. Towards level 5 it's even worse.

It should be far easier to find the data and materials for the three rolls of whatever needed for the next tier.

Ok thats what I was really trying to figure out. Shame about the pure time sink then on Ryder, maybe I'll make a missile boat for giggles and it'll be less miserable. I guess I need to figure out the material farming step now. I have gotten everything up til now by doing mission boards for faction ranks. I mean I understand the WHAT, more like where are good spots to go to increase the odds I find the right stuff. I can find videos showing me "Degraded Emissions Signal" for chemical processors, but where am I likely to find those signals? You know?

Take your time. For keeping mental health it's better not to obsess on engineers and collecting materials and data only step by step by doing missions, exploring and some occasional fighting. It may become too hard a grind otherwise.

Well unfortunately my gaming time table is more like all weekend, and limited weekly, so I use the weekends to hammer out what I can in big lumps and then spend my week pew pewing for pleasure, which is really all I want to do anyway. BH life. With all the fetch and go and ship swapping I wouldn't make much progress in a weeknight's worth of play time. Anyway, I better get to it.

Time sink...Just wait until you start down the Palin path. That leads through Qwent. Getting to Palin was the least pleasent task I have had in elite, made even worse by the fact that Qwent had nothing I needed except access to Palin. A truly soulless grind. Still, the G5 very dirty drives are really nice. Good luck.

I mean, I have some power plants and distribs that could use some upgrades even though I can get them elsewhere also, at least they're modules that effect most ships. All Ryder has is missiles and g1 armor and I need 4 ranks of that hot garbage

When I did Palins 5000 LY from start I offset and returned by a different route so I had around 10000 LY of data, selling that to Palin got me to the middle of grade 3 so unless you're a serious explorer it's not a very efficient way to rank up.

Pick the easiest attainable mats/data for each mod grade with a specific engineer and rank up that way, for Farseer get a shed load of sulphur iron, carbon, nickel, chromium etc and use them to get as far as grade 3 using grade one mods(3 for grade 1, 9 for grade 2 and 27 for grade 3 I believe) just pick mods you've got the equipment and mats for and spin away.

If you're doing low emission (iron) or overcharged (sulphur) power plants check the specs as you can get some great mods while doing multiple spins.

Yeah I've pretty much done all that for all the materials I had in stock, and got Martuuk and Farseer both to rank 3, but then hit that 3-4 wall and need to do better upgrades for big chunks of progress. I actually don't have much trouble gaining a couple million creds in explore data (and I know people hate it but I just learned about road to riches for explore data and that might sorta break the efficiency barrier for it) Anyway, I'm cruising shipping lanes for chemical manipulators now, I got all the scan data I need to get farseer to 5, just need the hard mats.

As an FYI, you can get to grade 4 and then 5 by rolling on blueprints other than Increased FSD Range, such as Shielded FSD. In fact, it doesn't even need to be in the component you are ultimately trying to engineer (although for Felicity, FSD is the only G4/G5 she has).

Have a look at this link https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...Them-at-These-3-Locations?highlight=davs+hope I've been to Dav's Hope a couple of times and you can get a lot of useful mats, I collected over 20 chemical manipulators the last time I was there and lots of other rare stuff, it's a fair old trip but if you don't mind a bit of exploring on the way it's a much less frustrating means of collecting mats than USS.

Always with the stellar info man, I actually came across Dav's Hope in a post and have been there for the last couple hours and checked the thread to see this haha. I did also hit the Orrere one. Only thing I really need now is arsenic. But yeah, places like Dav's Hope are exactly why I made this thread, to find out about those. Haha. Any others feel free to lemme know

Thx glad I could help, here's two locations that have capital ship docks beside the starport they have several satellites nearby that provide useful data and they're worth seeing as well!
