When Starting a new game, whats the difference between Open Play and Solo?

When Starting a new game, whats the difference between Open Play and Solo?

Also when I screw up really bad and just want to start over how do i do that?

Solo is single player, open play is online, however any achievements you get whilst in solo mode will carry over to online like credits and ships and status etc.

Clear save to reset the character
