When should I move on from the sidewinder and to what? Im sitting on about 100k from bounty hunting at nav beacons with 0 upgrades.
I feel like I past the "derp" mistakes. I've crashed into a sun... also I can land my ship no problem. My issue is that I just completely quit playing eve when I lost my big ship randomly. I am terrified that I might buy something then mess up.
The information I suppose I am looking for is if I buy an eagle and some upgrade for it for 70k then smash into the dock on the way out and die... How much is the fee? How much of a credit buffer do I need?
You should move to a new ship when you are comfortable with moving to a new ship or feel you have reached the ceiling of your current ship. Regardless of the ship you are in, there will be plenty of those unexpected "derp" moments. It is Elite Dangerous afterall. You will lose your ship; count on it. I finally got into a long awaited Type-6 Transport and lost it within 45 minutes. Insurance covered the replacement, all I had to fork over was 56K in credits. Now if you run out of money and blow up your ship you can take out a loan to replace it. You have a credit line up to 200,000 CR. The pay back of that loan is in 10% increments from every profit you make. You also have the option to declare bankruptcy. EVE and Elite Dangerous are two totally different games. The few things they share in common are:
1) Expect the unexpected.
2) Uncertainty is the most certain thing in life.
3) Don't fly what you can't afford to lose.
4) Be friendly, but be suspicious of the motives of others.
It is your decision to fly the ship you want, we all can tell you what we think you should fly but that hardly matters. Everyone has different tastes, including you. I think you should be in Viper, that is my two cents. When buying a new ship, try to at least have its value laying around to spend. For example, say you buy a ship for 900,000 CR. Make sure that after the purchase you still have at least 300,000 - 600,000 CR. If you are buying a 70,000 CR ship try and ensure you have between 70,000 and 100,000 CR laying around after purchase time. Also remember that if you are in the Great Outback of space and you decide you don't want your suped up ship for whatever reason, be mindful that if you sell it you will have a lesser FSD (jump drive). This means you could potentially be stranded if every jump out of your system-wide circle is 8ly and you can only jump 5ly. This happened to me because I needed to save money so I downgraded without thought towards modules and how much credits I had on hand. I was stuck within the confines of 6 systems for 2 weeks real-time until I could afford a better FSD to get out of my predicament. Don't be me. Good luck Commander. Fly safe.
