When to Buy a Python?

I bought it at 67 mil, I had to go with B5 FSD for a little while and cheap pulse gimbals and autocannons, but I wanted to change trading for bountyhunting anyway. I never felt like I have bought it too soon.

The answer is simple, if you are a pure trader at heart you can very well ignore the Python and go straight to a T9.

I'd have to disagree with this one. I'm mainly trading in my Python and it's so much nicer than the Type-7 it's increased my assets just because I really enjoy flying it so am doing more trading.

I put together a basic configuration at http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=305,mpV4yG4yG,2-A0A07_6uBaA08I,0AA0AA0AA08c08c4_w7Q405U03w. There was some debate about the merits of the fuel scoop Vs. more cargo space, and you could downgrade some of the components further depending on your required jump range, but you don't need more than this* to get going.

*Insurance and cargo money excepted. Don't forget to buy your ship somewhere you can obtain a discount to save another 5 or so million.
