When to get python ?

Classical pattern.

People squeeze, then buy before they should, fly a stock ship without re-buy and....well, the rest is evident from many forum posts.

Forget the Python for the next couple of days, dig in for a weekend of earning more cr, and be in a much more comfortable position on monday.

You're pushing it and you know it.

I've just bought my 2nd Python, this time with 73 million on hand. First time was with the Zaonce 20% discount and about 60 million. I had to completely gut my Asp explorer to afford it. I enjoyed flying the thing (enough to know I really wanted a Python) but was definitely overstretched. Then I got an opportunity (i.e. 15hrs with the house to myself) to do a Buckyball Sag A* run so I sold the Python again, re-equipt the Asp for long distance speed exploration and set off into the void. Now I'm back with an extra 22 million in exploration profits and the new Python feels much more comfortable. Mind you, I still had to tone down the shield rating when this happened after my first visit to outfitting ...

Exactly what i'm asking the OP to avoid, overstretching.;)

I just got my Python in founders for 50 mil.

I only have 82T cargo, but it will be fun to upgrade that in time.

I have enough cash to fill hold get a better fsd and pay insurance.

I did it with 60 mil.

Of course if you want to max out cargo then yes you do need like 65 mil.

I overstretched when I bought my Python (Zaonce discount)
At least x2 Insurance credits is now my minimum cashflow, after I wrapped it around an asteroid within 15mins! lol

Same with upgrading, its expensive, and very easy to use those credits.

I will own one (python) someday but that day is long off. I have 36mill and a vulture fully loaded and no cargo, but I love my vulture.

Be careful.
Do not buy the Python too soon, or it will limit your options and stall your financial progress.
You need insurance money, preferably at least twice the actual amount and you need a few million for cargo.

I bought the ship when I had 90 million or so, for a good trader build with a good jump range and some weapons and defenses.

Henceforth you shall be known as Iskariot the Wise.

Bought mine at 70 mil. A vast improvement on my old Type 7. Looked and flew like a brick!

Loving my new Python, but glad I waited as I had enough credits to upgrade, full cargo hold and insurance.
