When two tribes go to WAR, FUN is all that you can score.

So just been watching this video.

Looks like fun.

However I cant help thinking it would be exponentially more fun if the co-op group where competing against another co-op group who were trying to increase the fortunes of another faction. Smacking down on the AI can get old after a while.

So the idea would be to pick a system which has two independents at around 50%, ideally several stations and content like extraction zones etc and then have two groups of players try and give one faction dominance by fighting and doing missions, and stopping other players doing missions etc etc etc.
Before anyone goes there, I have never played EVE. I just want to use ingame environment and mechanics to create an entirely consensual PVP zone, that if anyone wants to participate, they can just fly to a certain system, pick a side and know there is a chance that someone may try to frustrate there goals.

Commanders wont have to necessarily sign up to any clans/groups etc etc, they can just be informed via forum posts etc that that in a certain system there is a competition for influence going on, and if they want to get involved they can just fly to that system and see what happens/get involved, knowing it may involve an element of PVP.

Of course if this is of no interest to you, then you can safely ignore the one system.

Im just trying to use my imagination to leverage the content in the game.

What mechanism would you implement to give opposing groups priority over everyone else joining an instance? How would you make sure that those groups always connect? How could you verify that with an inherently bad network like the internet?

How would you prevent private groups or solo players from doing tasks opposing your goals?

Why would you need to give anyone priority? lost me there. The point is to make it known that there is a competition going on in system X, if any player jumps in they can participate or not. If you jump in and no one else is in your instance, then you are free to get on with whatever.

Thinking about it though there would be no way to stop players doing missions because how would you know unless there was some out of game organisation. So without that the most that could be achieved would be PVP conflicts at nav beacons/exctraction sights were cmndrs attempted to kill/protect ships of there chosen faction and obviously try to stop other players with opposing goals.

It's even less complicated than that. What you want to achieve is not possible in Elite, unless you have willing participants. You may well have random people turning up though, and what they do is anyones guess.

Eh?

The whole point is to create willing participants.

Hi guys lets all chose a system and willingingly participate in trying to change faction dominance.

You might note that this already happening, the only difference here is that you wont have all the players trying to shift dominance for just one faction.

Im sure they spoke about missions where players come up against each other in the Dev diaries (dont ask me which one tho!).

You could actually have that already with something as simple as a courier mission, player A has to deliver, player B has to stop the delivery happening.

Give the package a window of time when it has to be delivered to allow time for both sides of the mission to be taken on, otherwise an npc can take it.
