General / Off-Topic When was the last time you went to the cinema to see a film at release? What film was it?

I went to See Thor love and Thunder at weekend. Imax The Cinema was pretty empty. SO interested to know who goes

I quite like to set up a film club in London . I studied film so understand it on may levels
Also saw Jurrasic Park
Amd Top Gun Maverick.

Same as Zieman, Dune. I was also surprised by how empty it was, wondered how they made any money. Then I bought wife and daughter popcorn and cokes, that’ll be it! Youve made me want to go again if there’s anything good on. I love the theatre more, just wish it wasn’t all musicals. Proper drama in the theatre is excellent.

Another one for Dune - and after watching my Dune 3D blu-ray via a virtual cinema in my Quest 2 headset, I’ll be sticking with the headset in future*: no one on their phones, no one munching snacks or having a bit of a chat, no half-hour of adverts before the movie, and I’ve got the best seat in the house and can pause the film whenever I want 😁

I was also surprised how much extra detail in Dune I saw when using my HMD - it was very dark in the cinema. For example, when Yueh is tending to Leto and Sardaukar are walking down some steps in the background - in the cinema they were vague white/grey figures descending a black something. In my virtual cinema, I could clearly see the detail on their white uniforms and the stairs they were walking down.

*apart from Dune Part 2, probably 😅

I had t realised you could watch dvds/ blu ray through the quest! Through some app or other? Must try that, sorry for any thread diversion, but how?

I rip my blu-rays/4Ks onto a portable drive which I plug into the USB on my router - I then use the network streaming feature in Skybox on the Quest 2 to watch the films in its virtual cinema 👍

It’s possible to watch direct from the disk if I Link to my PC (which has the BR drive) - in which case I use BigScreen and its many different viewing environments (the view screen is essentially just a desktop view and I’m playing the disks in VLC media player).

I prefer the first method though, and I can just about squeeze a 2.5 hour movie in on a full battery charge.

I think there are some films that really need to be seen in cinema and on the biggest screen they have. This one had at great expense a Imax screen its also has 4DX
15 screens.

My parents when they were courting would go to cinemas. I my nan would also go to cinemas and would somtimes take me to see the film I wanted. Happy days.

At university I studied film as part of my science degree.

Im also getting back into writing.
