When we jump the gun on criticism, we do FD down (sometimes)

...The sound in this game is unparalleled, incredible. Doubly so when I can play with cans on loud!...

You should hear it through my studio monitors - my main rig is also the primary workstation in my home recording studio, it blows me away every time and I just LOVE what the audio team at FD have accomplished. I've stopped playing the game through the surround kit attached to the computer and just feed it straight into my mixing desk and pipe it to the high-end JBL monitors because it just sounds too awesome not to! It sounds pretty phenomenal through my monitor cans too, but the sheer space-filling depth of ED's audio DEMANDS responsive speakers :)

I just think a little bit of respect is warranted when it comes to forum posts. I'm sure they're painfully aware themselves of things that could be better, so charging in with a "This is awful. Don't you know anything about games? I hope your pets die." approach is only going to make them hide from the forums.

In olden times I worked in games. I wouldn't have been able to cope with a forum. If I'd had my every decision assessed by an army of angry amateurs I would have quit and done something else.

First: yes I know that this new release(2.1) is 'late' and I know we are still in Beta...

...and please at least TRY to avoid "I wish this game was more like 'x' or 'y' because they do 'z' better". In my view, this game is utterly original both in how it approaches 'MMO' and how it compiles it's gameplay mechanics

The last few months have seen so many complaints - some really valid and some a bit more entitled - but lots of us have been focussed on a specific worry or complaint from our own perspective

But it seems to me that, as a result of the delayed 2.1 implementation we *may* (it's Beta) have got more than we could have expected in one go.

Yes, we are going to have better missions with better context, explanation and persistence
Yes, we are going to have way more flexibility in builds and ship and weapon priorities
Yes, the things are going to be balanced better generally, the fighting meta less fixed, the rewards more variable and interesting

From what I have seen myself and also read, FD have achieved so much more in terms of the basic game build, probably as a result of forum feedback and also the original roadmap so that little but important things like: (potentially - yes I know it's a Beta)

- improved LOD
- improved planetary graphics both far and close
- detail, detail everywhere (I really hope SRV tracks can stay in the final implementation!)
- the station tannoys and activity - wow
- genuinely interesting (if not yet palatable) AI behaviour

There's loads more of course. I can't and don't need to list everything as it's hasn't all been found yet, probably, and things will change more during Beta

But my point is, why do we criticise the game so hard and so soon, when so many good things are implemented in new releases (often which FD stay silent on despite the forum furore) when we could make our comment and then wait to see what exactly FD have improved before creating angst?

Like many, I love this game generally but also take breaks when I need to or am frustrated, but this upgrade is really, well, dare i say impressing me about how much FD care about this game, and us

I think its easy to confuse criticism with hate or game bashing. It goes without saying that ED does some things incredibly well and has done other things poorly. Even though I tear the game apart on occasion I'd like nothing better than for ED to be a wonderful game and its why I post as I do.

Do I go to far? On occasion probably but I tend to speak my mind and would hope that things posted related to the game aren't taken personally by the developers, who I am actually very fond of. Believe it or not this means I find criticising the game quite hard. If there is something I like I say so, but if not I also say so. Just one voice in the maelstrom of opinions.. ;)

From what I've seen 2.1 is a great update.. The game is starting to feel like a much more complete product. :)

Well, I can definitely say I am NOT JEALOUS AT ALL! :D Seriously though, if an audiophile and professional is impressed, then I feel doubly comfortable being so

No sorry, I'm the one who has to apologize. At least I said "be careful" since I already hoped you were using the "we" the way you clarified above. But away from home it occurred to me that you could have taken it personally. I hope you forgive me, but recently I've heard the "royal we" all too often in other context, mostly as a replacement of true arguments. Thus my rant was meant generally, not against you. Peace, in the hope it's all good.. :)

The main point of my post was that, assuming I'm not the only one (and I really can't know for sure) that all those players generally happy with the game tend to be a lot more silent in the forums and only wake up when the negativity seems to spill over, just to compensate for a completely distorted impression the developers might get which is something they really don't deserve: What they are doing here is currently unmatched in the gaming industry and I just demand due respect for their incredible work.

Peace back, and no, I never took offence (I think you know that) :)

No, you're not the only one. You're 2nd para exactly sums up my own feelings. All of it. I don't know what made me make the OP on this occasion when I'm generally passive. I can't either say I represent any 'silent majority' (I don't know why people use that phrase as no-one can tell who, or what is the majority opinion, never mind whether it matters or not!) But I do know that the most ascerbic and confrontational comments I see do not represent me.

Edit: as I can't rep you right now as I need to spread love elsewhere, you can take it as read that I'm generally coming from somewhere similar!

What he said. Also, I never thought of that 2nd bit; DB, MB et al have somehow come from that old era and through to this internet-frenzy era pretty much unscathed (I think!) Somehow. Respect!

FWIW Cosmos, you're one of my favourite posters, even when it's 'angry Cosmos'! But I saw your post on the station tannoys and I saw exactly what you mean and what you are, you dazzle-eyed little boy or girl. I can't blame you for wanting the best cos I can see how much it means to you *taps fist on chest in brotherhood*

After playing the beta for a couple of days now, I must say that I'm genuinely impressed with what they've done. The graphics overhaul alone is gorgeous and the outfitting changes are perfect. Those two things alone were worth the wait. With the addition of new missions and a small mission and background sim alteration, it's more than worth the wait. The new weapons and module upgrades add a ton of variety too.

I really don't have anything negative to say here. I run the game at 4K, it looks beautiful, runs smoothly, and plays well. Nuff said.

Thats super touching, I was tearing up for a moment there :) I think this is the nicest thing anyone has ever said of me on these forums. I never realised I had such an effect. I appreciate your post bro and thanks. But don't fret, I'll be back to my angry best soon no doubt [haha]
