is my base and storage depot and have it actually BE my base and storage depot?
(maybe with like bigger hangar buildings for my ships)
hopefully someday...

Only if it can be looted by other players who happen to stumble across it...or follow you around and discover where you stash stuff.
Imagine the Forum Rage after that started happening to peopleOnly if it can be looted by other players who happen to stumble across it...or follow you around and discover where you stash stuff.
Only? So if it can't be you'd cross your arms and say "no way"?
OP have you adopted a permanent POI?

It really doesn't matter to me one way or the other. The game is not a competition or a race to own the most stuff, so it doesn't affect me if someone wants to horde stockpiles of stuff.
While it's a cool idea.
Most of the downsides to ED stem from lack of servers. So I highly doubt FD will implement such a cool personal stash/base. Because 100,000s of them would probably kill the servers eventually. Lol
No more so than the hundreds of thousands of bases already present. I think you overestimate the difficulty involved.
Absolute worst case scenario is that they limit the where/how of it, so that it's not persistent in the universe to everyone, but only to you in your instance. This can be accomplished by, for example, limiting it to asteroid fields or rings. In those cases it doesn't need to be saved on a server as a persistent object, it's just fine to have a homing beacon for you to find it, but nobody can possibly stumble on it by chance, so it's okay for people not to be able to find it unless they're with you in your instance. (the annoyance would be if it was on a planet which you can give specific grid coordinates on and someone goes there and finds nothing)
