is your old one stored at that particular station? And i would assume it still has all of your upgrades if so. Then i can just go exchange ships when i get the urge to be a space trucker or hunter and the other ship would be left there as well? And I can do this with any ship multiple times (so have like 2 of the same ships outfitted for different jobs)?

I just would not be thrilled to have to buy a new ship every time I want to switch jobs and re-outfit it each time. I can understand having it stored at a location though. But a transference would be nice to get your ship moved to another location. Greater distance would mean greater fee though. Trucking across a few hundred lightyears just to get my old ship could get tedious imo.

You get the choice to buy a new ship and keep your old one, or trade in the ship.

If you choose to buy. New one, the old ship will be stored at the station you buy the new ship.

yup, stored at the station you buy the new ship at in the state you left it, you need to empty the cargo hold before you can swap ships though.

Yep, when you buy a new ship you will be given the option to part ex your current one where the current value of the ship you are in is taken from the price of the ship you are looking to purchase (can sometimes mean getting money back), or buy the ship for the list price and store your current ship, as is, including all upgrades, in that station, and hop into your new ship. Note - you can't store a ship if it has cargo in its hold though.

The stored ship will then be listed in the stored ships tab in any starport with a shipyard, giving you the location and distance.

Honestly, I don't think I could ever trade in a ship unless I got really desperate. I plan to pollute the whole galaxy in my Anaconda armada now :T

I'd have trouble selling my trusty & tried loadouts, too - but I've set up my home at a station where you can literally buy everything (with a very, very few rare exceptions), so it's not a big deal there to sell a ship to buy a different one, 'cause if you need it later you can re-assemble virtually the same loadout there.

Having a non transportable ship (left at the station where you bought you new ship) is really off putting considering the size of the galaxy.

There should be a 'transport to current location' option and associated charges.
