When you're coming home from a long voyage in a Large ship.....

And you see Landing pad 10, 40 or 25:

I prefer the pads in the back. That way when you launch you don’t accidentally bump ships coming from behind you during that perilous moment when your radar panel hasn’t switched over from the launch hologram.
This.
Also I always tend to turn too early when landing on the frontmost pads.

They are better when coming in too.

I've always thought that the pads that are the fartest from the slot should be reserverd for pilots allied with the governing faction. The more reputation you have, the fartest from the slot you dock. It would be a nice touch i guess.

Long range exploration in a large ship? Why don't you carry an Auto Dock Computer? It doesn't have mass and you should have enough space.

My approach to the 'near' pads is to either overshoot then reverse in to land, or to just drop the nose at the pad and pull up just as it starts to scrape... who needs paint anyway 🤷‍♂️
...and after a long run paint is usually at or near zero anyway ;)

I prefer to park way in the back because when I park in the front and the station destroys a loiterer, the shrapnel does scratch and dent my ships hull. I was at Jameson one day a month ago along with my son in a private game. We both selected return to surface and sitting on the pad, counted 30 ships in one hour getting destroyed by the station at the air door. With all the shrapnel floating around, there was little to know room to exit the station without banging in to it.

Guys.... guys....

That is a face of a woman in the throes of passion, not irritation!

It doesn't matter whether I'm coming home from a long exploration journey or a long night of missions. The three pads in the back are pure bliss.

And I know how to land, okay? A "non-braking Cutter" is child's play compared to a Beluga or Type 10, and I can't remember the last time I scratched their spoilers.

I'm leaving today for a holiday materials trip in the exploraconda. It's my first time out in a large and looking forward to it. My problem isn't which pad I get even though it took me a couple tries before I quit scraping the belly on the slot. My fear is that when I'm out for so long and I return home I forget to request docking let alone get a pad. I did it in my aspx but was able to go full reverse and stopped short of the opening.. I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to get Da-Vida stoppped in time after the alarm sounds:oops:

Well as long as you don't move the controls as you slide into the station it is quite straightforward to reverse out at full throttle before the station gets really annoyed at you, done this in my Orca just going to fast to stop and request permission.
