Some large ships will be able to embark Fighters in 2.2 - however the Sidewinder is bigger than a Fighter and will not be able to fit in the Fighter bay.

I would like to see this too, perhaps FD will introduce different sized fighter bays, leaving only the bigger ships the option of carrying Sidewinder or Eagle Class ships? Guess we will have to wait and see. Having an onboard fighter that can also do jumps and have it's own SRV bay would be very handy for exploration.

I can't remember if it was Michael or Sandro who mentioned it, but one of them said that we won't be able to make matryoshka doll ships.
I had this wonderful idea of taking an exploration Anaconda, fitted with a Sidewinder for landing, fitted with an SRV for driving on surfaces.
They were very specific that we wouldn't be able to do that.

Just because some people do it and it gets mentioned in flavour text doesn't mean that it's a good idea or that you get to do it too :p

:(
Well that's a shame

Yeah, this is definitely one of those "Here's what we want" vs "here's what you get" Kind things... As much as I like the game, I really just shake my head at such quotes. It's just another example of the Dev team handing down edicts that force you to play a certain way. It's like targeting skimmers... "No, we want you to use the SRV so we will make it virtually impossible to target the skimmers from the air"... Why? What is so compelling about shooting skimmers from an SRV? I've probably destroyed close to 1,000 of them and I can say there is very little that is compelling about shooting something that stops moving as soon as I hit it.

Or for that matter the decision to make the skimmers damn near destroy the ship if you accidentally run one over... In what universe does that make any sense at all? It's this kind of heavy handedness that turns off so many people and unreasonably limits what could be some very compelling gameplay.

dam an I spent the time to grade 5 engineer upgrade my sidewinder...I am rather upset that the desc was intentionally misleading. there has to be a legal issue there somewhere.

There isn't a legal issue. it's Frontier's game to make how they want. It seems that the original plan was to allow the sidewinder to fit into the Anaconda, but I imagine they changed it for balancing or a different vision of ship launched fighters. The only annoyance is they haven't updated the Anaconda's flavor text in the shipyard to reflect what we already know.

A reminder of insane game mechanics.
Fdevs take note of bad bad choices, totally illogical drivel.

legal issue

I realise this may be a shock but you can't actually litigate due to disappointment.

darn, anaconda desc says it can dock sidewinder size ships...2 sizes of docking bay?

That is correct, that is what the description says.. maybe that just applies to the biggest ships in the game like the Anaconda, Cutter and Corvette.

That may not apply to ships the size of a Python and below. Only time will tell. :D

It still says the Corvette can have two fighters also. You can only launch one fighter at a time they've told us.

Only launch one, but have 2 ready to fly.

Remember, the fighters are 3d printed on ship after they are killed off, that takes time. So if it can hold 2 then that is already an advantage.

Damn.....description of the Anaconda made me believe this from the first minute.
They HAVE to make it possible :D
Otherwise i will start a whine thread :( :D

Just kidding....maybe

Well the Python can't even launch fighters. There's only 7 ships capable of SLF including Beluga.
