Where ARE all the pirates

Been playing since release as BH and still not managed to find a single player pirate.... Killing NPC's all the time... so dull...... Thought this game was supposed to be Dangerous, its anything but..

I was interdicted outside Eranin 30 minutes ago, and saw a few people cargo scanning around Lave 30 minutes before that.

Go to busy places. Meet pirates.

Not many though. If you read the forums you'd think everybody and his frog was getting pirated every other trip. It's just not the case.

I tried trading last night in systems near lave and was interdicted by player pirates and a few psychopaths every few minutes. got old fast... but was quite "dangerous". Try heading to a dangerous system, i.e. an anarchy system next door to a bunch of super-hi population systems.

Thats what I'm getting at, I'm seeing lots of posts from people saying that they are getting attacked by pirates.... But here's me playing bounty hunter and can't find any of those pirates ANYWHERE

The problem for you is good pirates will pay off their small Assault bounties regularly. You'll have to look for psychopaths that don't pay off their murder bounties.

As the name implies, you are a bounty hunter, not a pirate hunter.

Oi! No they don't. Some of us run a bounty because it's more fun that way. I actually think I get a higher score rate as well, as often people hauling goods will try and kill me for it.

I also get murder bounties occasionally. Sometimes because people are stubborn and when I say "if you charge your FSD I kill you" decide that it's a good idea to charge their FSD (note: usually they have no sheilds at thsi point and <10% hull. My message usually says if they drop x cargo they live), sometimes apparently because they self-destruct after I damage them. Either way, it's never really bothered me.

Or freedom fighters, who use the bounty to reflect the damage the inflicted on the attacked party.
Yet don't expect freedom fighters to be in the heartlands of the factions,
look for the conflicts.

Not everyone plays Open. For example, couldn't pay me enough to play Open.

Also, the Galaxy is HUGE. People spread out.

There is no Benefit from Playing in Open Gamemode.
So Any halfwat Intelligent Trader will Play Private or Solo.

Without Traders to Pirate.
There is also no Pirates.

As long as there is no reward for Playing Open you wont have much Piracy in the Game.
What you have is Senseless Griefing in the Spawn Systems of new Players tough.

But even that is subsiding cause people just play Solo or Private till they got a proper Ship and have Distanced themself from these Systems.

There are two types of player:
1) Those who enjoy interacting with other players.
2) Those who don't.

I've had plenty of people tell me that they've enjoyed being pirated by me. You clearly fall into the second camp. Just because you do though, don't assume everybody is like you. Some people actually enjoy the fact that something might happen to break the monotomy of their trade runs.

Ok, let me rephrase...safe, profitable pirates won't be floating a high bounty.

I make over 200k an hour thankyouverymuch. Only died once, when I fat-fingred the boost button instead of the thrust button. I think my bounty increases my profits, rather than decreases it. More people try to fight me while holding precious cargo, and I'm better at fighting than them, in general. I also don't have to pay off my bounty, which increases the monies I have!

EDIT: To clarify, I'd argue that while 200k/hour isn't a good income, I think it's pretty good for piracy. It's also a low-ball, because I'm sure of it. An estimate would be nearer 250-300k/hour these days, but that might be a bad guess. I'm going to start measuring things from now onward so I can make claims like this with certainty!

thing is there have been what? a hundred or so complaints about pirating, with over 300,000 copies of elite sold? it is just a minority that voice as in everything, like those people complaining about everything, compared to the 300,000 copies being used, no matter what happens here, it IS a minority! :)

£1 million?

Haha, point taken. Point is, no one is going to actually pay me to play in Open and I sure as heck wouldn't find it fun so it's not gonna happen. :D

(Remind me not to use cliche phrases around here. :D)

Kind of a false dichotomy, don't you think?

I enjoy interacting with other players. But not when such interaction is so open that it can take the form of "pew pew pew you're dead."

I used to be very good at PvP. In 1997, back in UO. That's been some time. There is always someone faster, younger, more skilled, more experienced, or simply just having a better day.
